I would hope he goes with mix or kles instead of jones in the middle but I doubt it, somehow Jurgen loves jones irregardless of the card problem

I don't. Jones is much much better than either of those 2 guys. Jurgy probably loves Jones because he is really good. The guy is a starter for a legit champions league team and has been playing really well. He is the best CM we have, outside of Bradley, by a long shot. He should start every game we play, if available. He catches a lot of crap from US fans, for some reason, but he's one of the best players in our pool.

And he's unable to control himself on the field. He's essentially a talented Ricardo Clark. He *will* frick us over and get red carded in an important game. Mark my words... it'll happen.

He's also 31, so he's going to start slowing down soon as well, so he won't be covering the ground he does now.

I'd rather devote the energy to developing someone who has more upside and less downside, even it's a Geoff Cameron or Mo Edu.

He is really good, but there's a point where you have to realize how much of a liability playing with 10 men is.. and his massive propensity for cards.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the schalke/Arsenal game but he should have been thrown out of that, not to mention the yellow 30 seconds after being subbed on in the guatemala game.

He gets carded an obscene amount and will probably be too old for 2014. His club performances have also not transferred to the USMNT. He's the Germerican version of Darren Fletcher.

I agree that he's better than Mixx (from what I've seen), but Sacha is better than you think he is and he plays for the Belgian Champions.

He catches a lot of crap because he gets carded almost every game and is horrible at retaining/recycling possession, leading to easy/preventable chances by the opposition.

The modern game requires holding mids to be disciplined and accurate passers. Jones has repeatedly proven to be less than apt at these skills, hence why Danny Williams has replaced him.

Key word: Talented. He's not Ricardo Clark. He has gotten 5 reds in his career since 2004, NONE with the US. Until we start developing semi-world class, champions league type players at a higher rate than we currently do, we have to take what we got. Which is a really good player who plays on the edge, but doesn't necessarily hurt his team in the process.

I did, both games. And I saw him running all over the place making an impact on the game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's not really a holding mid is he? More of a box to box type player. He runs a lot, tackles, breaks up plays, etc. Also, the old excuse is a cop out. WC2014 is less than 2 years away. I doubt his skills will erode so fast that he won't be in the picture. Early 30s is still considered a players prime IMO.

You didn't see him kick a guy in the thigh during a header, knee a guy in the back away from the ball, and elbow/hit another guy in the face?

All three should've been at least yellows, at best he's a little better than are other options, but 5 times more likely to get carded, it's risk/reward..

Not to mention how you have to change your game after you get a yellow... Which he always does

True. But like I said, he's our best option at the moment. Hopefully Stu is healthy by 14, but I'm starting to doubt it. Danny Williams looks good too, but right now, I'll take Jones in a big match over either of those two. He's proven he can play at the highest level.

I don't like his dirty play, but I really don't like that he just doesn't seem that good for the U.S. I hear that he's more talented, but I don't think he's so talented that we can afford to build the team with him penciled in anywhere.

Jermaine Jones is crazy but he's a good player. He's starting for Schalke, you have to be a good player to do that. Now I would prefer to not have to start him because he's a walking red card. Kind of like Balotelli but not as talented.

You can link as many graphics as you want man, but until we find someone else who can do the things he does, he has to be starting important games for the US. That's a risk teams like the US have to take when you have a limited talent pool. We're not Germany/Spain etc.

Agree to disagree then, I say he's not enough of an improvement over our other options to warrant the risk. Just wait until he gets a red in the first half of a game in the round of 16..

Danny Williams and even Mo Edu on his good days at holding mid accomplish the same thing as Jermaine Jones minus the ever present red card threat, and the piss poor distribution.

UEFA Champions League play shouldn't automatically earn a player a starting role on this team. There are some fairly mundane teams in the Champions League. It's not like Jurgen Klinsmann is dying for the national team to feature stars plying their club trade at CFR Cluj, Dinamo Zagreb, BATE Borisov or Arsenal.

ETA: Two separate yellow cards earned in different World Cup qualifying merits an automatic one game suspension. Why risk a employing a player who is likely to miss every third game with suspension?

Schalke isn't comparable to CFR Cluj or Dinamo Zagreb. They're the second best team in the Bundesliga so far this year. He's a consistent starter for them. Danny Williams is good too. Both are a step above Maurice Edu.

If it was me, I'd roll with Danny Williams and have Jermaine Jones on standby for when we're trying to kill a game.

I think he'd be a good sub for 2014 when we have a lead.

Give me a fricking break man. Klinsmann would kill to have 90% of Arsenals roster be an option for him to pick. And Schalke are not just your run of the mill Champs League qualifier that get knocked out at the group stage. They made it to the Semis a couple years ago and are 1st in their group. I think you are overrating the players Jurgy has at his disposal.

re: US roster for Russia released

I'm using the "Champions League" experience argument meriting an automatic national team selection as an example. I'm not discrediting Schalke, who are a fantastic European side. For example, Steve Cherundolo hasn't gotten a sniff of Champions League play in his laudable thirteen year career at Hannover, yet he's still an infinitely better international player than Jermaine Jones. Sacha Klejstan has struggled to get playing time under Klinsmann, yet he's featured in the Champions League this season. Does that mean I think he should start over Michael Bradley as our creative central midfielder? Nope.

And that was mainly a joke about Arsenal being lousy. I'm sure the other Gooners on here understood it.

Ok, whatever. But Anderlecht fall into the CFR Cluj category, not the Schalke category. And, Jermaine Jones is better than Sacha, though I think Sacha is a good player. Just my opinion.
