Who are the LSU commits/prospects I should keep an eye on? Hidden gems like Mathieu or Hill? I don't really trust star rankings all that much.. so which commits are our future stars?

Well if you want pure athletes, Brazil and White are as good as they come. The 2 best pure football players imo are Neal and Diarse. Smith is the biggest need at TE, but I bet he plays more of an Aaron Hernandez role early on. Both QBs have been impressive early on and that always excites the fan base. It seems to be a loaded class filling needs with top flight guys. The newest commit was on my original wish list and has the oportunity to earn some pt early on. I really like this class and havent even mentioned Pocic and Boutte, 2 of our maulers that will be studs for sure. Also, Rashard Robinson is the type of CB that I look to see on the field next year, he definitely has that swag... I'll never forget reading the article about him killing it at camp and challenging anyone, including LSU WRs

I've seen Diarse but he's one of the few. Dude is a stud. Are the QBs dual threats or pocket passers?

Best 3 players in this class IMO...

CB Tre'Davious White - This is kid has everything going well for him on the field and off the field. Definitely looks like our next shut down CB.

DT Greg Gilmore - Not saying this just because he committed today, but this guy is a game changer at DT. We didn't really pickup any elite DTs last year it looks like and this year Gilmore was a MUST get for the inside of our defense which could have been a weak point in the coming years without him.

OG Josh Boutte - Absolute MAULER and plays with a mean streak, definitely will remind a lot of folks of our 2 current OGs Collins and Turner. OL is always one of the most important things to build on for the future and we need depth at OG pretty badly coming up here.

Player to look out for...

DE Lewis Neal - Not any one site rates him a 4* or better I believe...but all this kid does is get to the QB. Could be a pass rushing terror down the road for us.

I think there are more 'headliner' type recruits than under the radar gems this year. Big names are probably John Diarse ATH, Jeryl Brazil ATH, Quantavioud Leslie WR, Hayden Rettig QB, Ethan Pocic OT, Anthony Jennings QB, DeSean Smith TE and Greg Gilmore DT.

Most underrated guy IMO is Tre'Davious White. He is an Army AA, but I think he's our next big time CB prospect. Same type of guy as a PP, Claiborne, Ried, Thompson IMO.

I hate that people just assume Jennings is dual threat

He is. He'll be close to 1000 yards rushing by the end of the season.

Keep up with 2014 Class. Has potential to be best ever. Possible to get 6 or more 5*.

Yeah, all Neal did was dominate EVERY combine/camp he went to(won best defender each time), yet the recruiting gurus refuse to give him his due. I usually dont get riled up on low rankings of recruits but his is just ridiculous. He is easily one of the best at his position period. And why oh why did Gilmore and Diarse drop? Diarse is only going for his 3rd state title in four years, the kid is smooth like Jerry Rice and is pretty much the Tim Tebow of Louisiana high school football. Gilmore is still listed at SDE by rivals(becoming a joke of a site)even though he has said MANY time he'll be a DT.

Dual-threat tends to lead people into believing they are run first QBs. Jennings is not a run first QB, he isn't even what I would call a good runner. He just has great mobility. Think Matt Flynn.

Jennings wont be running for 1000 or even 500 yards in college even if he tried.

But the definition of dual threat isn't run-first, it's someone who can make plays with the the pass and the run. Jennings fits that mold. He's not Mike Vick, but he can certainly hurt some teams scrambling or with some read option (which will be run with him if he sees the field at LSU).

I agree with you TB, but Jennings is a "dual threat" QB. Just think less Tim Tebow and more RGIII. Hell, Chase Daniel was listed as a dual threat QB coming out of high school.

I'll be honest. These two QBs have the potential to be the best QBs we've had on campus in a long time. I hope Kragthorpe works some magic on them.

I agree completely... I get all warm and fuzzy every time I read the comments about them being smart, ACCURATE, and team leaders

I would say most "dual-threat" QBs typically posses average to below average arm talent. Whether that's accuracy, strength, etc...usually dual-threat means good to great runner and bad to decent passer. EXTREMELY rarely do we see someone with good to great running skills AND good to great arm talent. Jennings is a pass first QB which is why I would classify him as a pro-style QB. He just has very good mobility and at the high school level that can translate into scrambles for some gains.

I think that's your definition of a dual threat. Like I said, RP, RGIII, Cam Newton and Chase Daniel were all listed as dual threat, but they were good passers.

I think we see more of the failures rather than the dual threats who succeed as a passer.

I dont see Jennings near those guys in running ability. I see him once again more like Matt Flynn which was a pro-style QB with good mobility.
