There are about 235,000,000 eligible American voters (citizens 18 and over).
Approximately 72 percent (169 million) of these potential voters are white and 28 percent (66 million) non-white.
Say white voters would vote about 67% Republican
and non-white voters would vote about 90% Democratic.
Assuming equal 80% turnout of both whites and non-whites.
Doing the math gives:
95.8 million Republican votes
92.2 million Democratic votes
Obviously a larger than 90% non-white Democratic or less than 67% white Republican vote could turn the total in favor of Democrats.
It would not be impossible for Republicans to win the popular vote. It would depend on turnout and on how far the actual vote is from the normal voting percentages by race/party.
Turnout would be much higher and the elections could possibly be very competitive.
I know there would be much bigger fraud issues with EVERY vote actually directly determining the race for POTUS.
Does any of this make sense or am I dreaming?

In what way? Are those percentages way off reality?
I'll admit I didn't research the actual presidential voting norms, but I think I used reasonable 'swags' to generalize the idea.
I'm not trying to prove or disprove anything. I just think that the idea of a popular vote always going Democratic just because of the demographics of the heavily populated cities is not a certainty.

For one, Romney pretty much maxed out the white R vote at 60%. 67% wouldn't happen, whites aren't that monolithic nationally.

Not now but they might be one day if the Balkanisation of America continues.

That seems unrealistic. Obama got 40% of the white vote this time, and even more than that in 2008.

You will you continue to lose when you think of politics in terms of race ,and not appeal the to the human mind. That's what you don't get- you don't have to pander more to the latinos,blacks, and young whites-you have to actually appeal to them and include them.

I agree that direct popular election of the president would likely increase turnout. I didn't vote yesterday because I was running late for work and I vote in D.C. where there was obviously no doubt who was going to win, so I didn't bother to wait in line. If my vote were actually going to matter, I would have.
