| If Christie runs in 2016, how much of a factor would his weight play w/voters? (Posted on 11/7/12 at 8:52 pm)
Pardon the “if Christie runs” pun... I really don't know who the front runners are in ’16. I’ve heard Marco Rubio, Rand Paul & Chris Christie as potential candidates, mostly from here on PT. Focusing solely on Christie, a couple questions: 1) Would his weight become a legitimate factor with voters? I’m guessing he's 325lbs+. Should I GFY for even asking this? 2) Would Christie carry NJ in a Presidential election? Would other Northeast states be in play too?

Probably some. Like it or not, the candidates need to look healthy. He has to weigh more than 325.

I think the perception that he gave Obama too much praise during Sandy will hurt him more than his weight.

I give zero fricks about his weight. Just like I give zero fricks about Obama's skin color.

A lot. No one would admit it, of course, but image plays a large role in how people vote.

He's too fat and he sold out at the last minute. He could run as a Democrat but he's done if he has GOP aspirations.

Unfortunately, I think it would be a factor. He would need to start losing weight, eating right and working on a healthy lifestyle now. Like it or now, we are judgmental - and people would make assumptions about him based on his weight.

That's a pretty bad comparison. You can't control skin color

Christie would have to run as a Democrat. He's finished in the Republican party. He already knows it based on his news conference earlier this week.

I care more about Christie's slobbering all over Obama over this Sandy thing!! He lost my Primary vote on that one.

And why shouldn't his weight be a factor? If he can't take care of his own body that's obviously a big flaw. I don't understand why fat people just get a pass in the country. They should be viewed the same as cigarette smokers but they aren't.

Look at the way SNL treated Palin and what that did to her public perception. It would be a lot worse with Christie.

Noted... But the point was that I don't care about what someone looks like. It's their ideology that matters.

Christie's dead in the water after the way he fawned over the Bamster after Sandy. He will not get the Republican nomination. BTW, he reminds me too much of fat boy Nungesser.

In my opinion he showed the President Respect. He praised Obama but blasted Dem Mayor of Atlantic City for disobeying his orders. He's doing what's best for his people, frick politics at a time like this. Just like people in Joplin came together after the Tornado, Republicans, Democrats, etc. No time to play politics. Christie shows respect to people that deserves it no matter if they're D or R. Rep Long, Sen Blunt both Republicans showed Obama a lot of respect during our disaster. But down the road they were back at bashing him. You do what's best for your people.
