Do you think Obama pushes for it or just ignores all of his constituents that voted for him because of that issue? My personal take is he used them to get their votes and will largely ignore them because he doesn't really care about the issue.

He's currently on record as saying, although he is for it, it is "state issue" (ergo, not a fundamental right.) Are you suggesting he's now going to evolve further?

I actually wish they would make it legal for them already. I don't care who anyone wants to marry and the gays won't have anything to complain about anymore so they can STFU about it.

Aren't all marriages (as for as Gov is concerned) "state issues"? By that, I mean that we get marriage licenses in whatever STATE we are getting married. I never applied for a Federal Marriage License. As far as the Fed is concerned, my position is they ought to simply recognize (to the degree that they do now) any marriage that is sanctioned by any state. I would be happy for him to use the "bully pulpit" to advocate for the sanctioning by all states. But, there is no need to make this a constitutional / federal issue......at this point.

No, the Supreme Court has said it is not a "state issue" when I think it was Georgia, wanted to keep interracial marriages illegal. That was (correctly) deemed a violation of a fundamental right.

I agree. I'm not sure that's what a lot of proponents think, though. I'm sure they'll give Obama a pass for not articulating it the way they like, though, because they can see inside his soul and know he's really for them, like they did when he previously winked and nodded and said he viewed marriage as between a man and woman.

As long as the IRS is involved it will be a federal issue.

I do. My wife's uncle, who was more of a father to her than her actual father ever was, is gay, and I want him to have that opportunity just the same as me. If we aren't here for life, liberty and especially the pursuit of happiness, then what the hell is the point?

How is he denied this today? He can still love and spend the rest of his life with anyone he wants. Committment isn't a piece of paper, it's part of your soul.

For starters, they don't get the same visitation rights at the hospital. They lose out on some tax benefits that same sex couple have. They don't get the same social security benefits as same sex couples. There are many estate tax and estate planning benefits they don't get that same sex couples get. I understand the commitment piece, and that anyone can live with anyone they want to, but there are other pieces of the puzzle they are denied.

Then don't make this about "pursuit of happiness" and make it about "money". They are not equal.
