David Axelrod, a top advisor to President Obama’s reelection campaign, said Sunday that he is concerned that Hurricane Sandy could reduce turnout and potentially hurt Obama’s campaign.
“Obviously, we want unfettered access to the polls, because we believe that the more people come out, the better we’re going to do,” Axelrod said. “And so, to the extent that it makes it harder, that’s a source of concern.”
The storm could have a wide-ranging effect on swing states from North Carolina and Virginia to even New Hampshire or Ohio.
Axelrod said that the political implications of the storm remain hard to predict and that the president will be focused on helping the victims.

This! Its actually the other way around. Obama's voters are out voting early, its the Repubs that vote late, and the later might not be good. Too much uncertainty to really predict who its going to hurt..

But wouldn't it in theory suppress both sides' turnout more or less proportionately? The only way it makes a difference is if precincts favoring one side are disproportionately hit. Electoral votes per State don't change with turnout. Seems like a non-issue.

From the (admittedly) little I've read about the storm, most of the worry about damage will be from flooding. The effect of the storm on turnout will depend on which Rep or Dem stronghold areas catch the brunt of that, along with which voter base in those areas managed to get more early votes in. IMO it could go either way, or end up a neutral factor. All depends on storm damage.
That said, I hope the storm isn't as bad as the hype is leading the public to believe it will be and that the folks affected come through it okay.

The storm will hit a week before the election. I understand the concern over power outages but weather itself shouldn't be a factor.
