Our main blind is set up in an old cypress tree and is about 7' off of the water. I want to put a dog ramp and porch on it but I want to see it anyone has hunted with a dog on a platform under the blind rather than have it climb all the way up.

Did y'all train it to stay on a stand similar to those used in flooded timber? That doesn't seem to bad since your standing next to it. Even with an e collar and a well mannered dog I fear not being within arms reach she'll freak out and not stay put. If I decide to do this I have to start now, I should have her understanding this within a few days.

What would y'all do? Spend the $ and time and build the huge ramp or work on the stand below?

Like you said this depends on the dog. I may worry with the dog not being able to see the hunters marking the birds though.

Build the ramp. If the dog brings a cripple what happens?

I once had a blind exactly like what you are describing. We built a platform under the blind and one man just hunted from down there while working the dog. It sucked because you missed the conversations and fellowship in the blind. It really sucked when the bitter cold moved in and I was standing in waist deep water all the while hearing the hissing of the heater in the blind. We ended up tearing the blind down and building a floater with dog boxes/ramps on each end. That turned the whole deal into first class operation.

ETA: I didn't mind all that much because it was a mallard heavy hole. I collected so many bands while working my dog under that blind.

According to who was in the blind. Friends I would say no. Paid hunters that do not know what a band is? YES!
