RACHEL MADDOW: Because the “Let Detroit go bankrupt” headline you feel like was inappropriate?
LETTERMAN: Well, the fact the President is invoking it and swearing that he was right and that Romney was wrong and I thought, well, he’s the president of course he’s right. Well, it turned out no, he was taking liberties with that.

He was lying.
You aren't familiar with the story. There was no private money to do Romney's plan Even Bain didn't want any of that.
I can't link you videos of the GM folks in charge.

Wow! If I had not heard Letterman actually say it (in the video) I would have thought you made up his words. "Taking liberties with it" = lying.
But Rex says Obama was not lying.

Your position is banks would have refused to loan GM money in spite of a blanket loan guarantee from the federal government, which is what Romney proposed in his Op-Ed piece???

Of course there wasn't any money, until they went into a managed bankruptcy. One where proper rules were to be followed and union and other contracts negotiated out.
