We have been shooting rage broadheads on our club for the past 3-4 years with nothing but positive results! This year there have been 4 deer shot and recovered but with very minimal blood trails. I'm not talking about borderline shots either. 3 of the 4 were hit in boiler room and while they didnt go far the normal blood trail wasnt there. The heads were brand new out of package and from more than one package. Just wanted to know if any of you guys have experienced this or anything like this.

Most likely just shot placement.

Rages make some very nasty cuts from what I've seen.

Shot placement was perfect and was also on 4 different deer by 3 diferent hunters. Rage does make some nasty holes and these deer were opened up but they just werent pumping it out like they normally do.

Gotta be shot placement man. A 2" slit is a 2" slit whether it was made by rage or a sharp rock.

This. If you can see the wound and know that the broad head opened up then it's shot placement. You may think it was a perfect shot, but if there's a 2" cut through a deer and no blood trail you didn't hit anything that would throw out a bunch of blood.

I understand this but these shots were excellent hits. Iwould have no problem figuring this out if it was caused from shot placement.

Did the arrows pass through? Is the entrance wound the size that it should be? If so then I'd say by pure coincidence those shots all happened to be close enough to/hit enough major arteries and vitals that it killed the deer, but I just happened to miss, maybe just barely, the areas that would bleed out a lot.

Every shot is different. Sometimes you'll have blood everywhere. Other times the deer will run 10 yds or less and drop dead and there will be no blood til it falls. shite I shot one with a rifle through the arse last year, dropped where he stood, and it didn't bleed a drop until I hung him on the rack and started skinning him.

same thing with my big deer from last year. the winchesters I shoot do a lot of damage on the inside but the deer dont bleed a lot. I get better blood trails from my rage.

Anatomy is a funny thing man. You can put a shot in almost the exact same spot and have it pour blood one time and barely nothing the next. Deer will clot really quickly. If you don't knick some major vessel(s) on the way through it really won't put a whole lot of blood out. Doesn't mean it was a bad shot necessarily.

the deer I shot last year took two steps and dropped. no a speck of blood. my dad shot a nice 9 point two years ago and it 5 or 6 steps and plopped. we looked for 3 hours and couldnt find it because of no blood. we finally got on the 4 wheelers and started making passes through the brush and there he was, just off of the the lane where he shot him. even when we rolled him over, not a speck of blood.

Complete pass through and blood covered from tip to tip on arrows. Like I said the deer were all recovered just not the typical horror scene blood trails produced by rage. The majority of blood was found within 10 ft of the deer.

Yup. It clotted quick. Not a bad shot just happened not to hit any really major vessels on the way through

That's my theory

I'm no expert on deer anatomy, but I've seen plenty of deer shot very well not bleed a drop. There's places that arrow can pass and not cut anything that's going to pump blood out the hole.

Yea man that was awesome! Thats what I'm used to seeing with a rage. Just odd that 4 deer this year by 3 hunters have had same results. Congrats on your kill! Hopefully my next blood trail looks the same but I'm glad we were able to recover all the deer that were shot with lack of blood on them.

3 blades are the ones that typically have problems opening. Because of the way the blades cross, they can jam up. I would suggest trying the 2 blades on 2 or 2.3in. I have friends who shoot the 3 blades with no problem, but have read about more problems with the 3 blades.
