Why did LSU only play aTm at home for 30 years?

Any old timers wanna field that one for me?
I was doing some reading on the LSU vs aTm rivalry, and I was shocked to discover most of the games were played in Death Valley.
Even more shocking: we've only beaten the Aggies ONCE in College Station. In 1987.

You 've obviously never been to College Station.
Stark Vegas is far better...

it wasn't really that uncommon in that era. Tiger Stadium, while much larger now,was still considered very large in the 1950's,1960's and 1970's. Kyle Field wasn't very big plus the Aggies were still and all-girl school and their fandom wasn't quite like it is now.LSU was able to offer A&M more than they'd make at home.
If you have access to an LSU media guide, or go to the website, you'll see similar games in Baton Rouge as opposed to the opponent vs Ole Miss and most notably Miss State. Even UK to a smaller degree. Even Mississippi Memorial in Jackson held only 46,000 until the 80's. Hemingway and Scott were in the mid 30's until then, too.

I can't think of any other place I've been to off the top of my head that's worse than Starkville. Wow.

This is an Aggie joke just begging to be written...

Well, that makes it really difficult to field a competitive FB team.

Because for the longest it was to aTm's advantage to play us moreso that it was for us. There were actually some early years they were a whore game. They did make more money coming to us instead of playing a home for a number of years. This all ultimately changed.

My Dad took my brother and I to the '58 & '59 LSU - Ole Miss games, back to back in BR. I think TS was the biggest in the South behind Tulane Stadium and then as now money was the draw.

Why?
$$$. Texas A&M was all military back then. Basically the Citadel with some undefeated, unscored-upon seasons, a national championship, and a bigger football ego.

They were the cheerleaders as LSU scrimmaged themselves wearing Aggie colors.

That was the reason..... I was at the games in the late 60's... We used to beat them up pretty regularly in those days....

LSU hosted A&M for years because Kyle Field only sat 33,000 or i should say stood. A&M would get about 10,000 tickets for the LSU games and there entire section was dressed in khakis (except for a few dates) It was all male until around the early 70s i think. The halftime show you see Sat will be the same one their band did at LSU all those years

Rice, wake forest, and Kentucky were always home games. It was more cash for everyone.

LSU played Rice in Houston in '68, I was there. Fav cheer, "What comes out of a Chinaman's arse? Rice! Rice!"

Because from WWII until the 70s A&M sucked, with the exception of the Bear Bryant years, Tulane was better the the Aggies.

Because we could, now they are in our conference so we have to go home and home.
