I own an AR15 and enjoy shooting the hell out of it when I have time... gotta get my skills honed for when the zombies finally rise up... but .223 ammo is rediculous for the most part. Anyone have any good sites or even retail stores with a decent deal on ammo

I think someone posted this one recently.
PMC at Cablela's
$20 rebate on orders over $150 is also available on their site. Free shipping if you can pick up at one of their stores.
There are better prices on the web for larger quantities and for manufacturers that some shooters may not like. But this looks like a pretty good deal.

I found some on gunbroker.com a while back. Was 500 rounds for a little over $200 with shipping. I think next time I order I'm just going to order a couple thousand.

You have to cruise all the ammunition sites because they buy in bulk and have different deals all the time.
You should pay about $0.20 per round or 1000 rounds for about $200 bucks. Shipping will push it a little but not much over $0.21 or $0.22 per round.

I'm spoiled in that I don't pay for ammo.

Uh oh.
You sure it wasn't 1000 rounds? If not, you paid double...
ETA: Are we talking brass or steel cased? I'm talking about the cheapest of the cheap... steel.

500 XM855 55gr Federal brass case. Before shipping it was advertised at $150, when I called they said since the ad expired 30 minutes ago it's now $175. For the brass M855, no matter where I looked they were all pretty much this price.

After searching the web through several search engines, I just ordered a case for my AR 10, Hornady Superperformance Match 168 gr Boattail amax.308, from www.TargetSportsUSA.com for 200 +/- with free shipping. 308 caliber is a little more expensive than .223 but you might find something to your liking. I liked the free shipping for bulk ammo becasue of the wieght.

+1. I always have ammo stockpiled because I don't have to rely on stores.
