We had 4th and 5 with 41 seconds to go, and Miles burns our last time out rather than take the delay of game penalty. Why?

I realize that 5 yards wouldn't have made a big difference, and Spurrier would've probably declined the penalty, but I don't understand Miles' reason for calling time out.

They needed a FG. That 5 yards could have been all the difference.

I thought it was a good decision last night. Wing had been punting shitty all night. Les wanted him to punt it into the endzone so their dangerous returner wouldn't have a shot. 5 yards back and it would have been tough to get it in the endzone.

The field position dictated Les's decision.

I agree was questionable. Should have just taken the penalty but also no more time would have ticked off

It was a good call if you think about it with the rest of the game in mind.

What if we had ended up needing that time out for our defense?

Even the announcers were curious about it.

And what if they had to kick a 50 yd FG instead of a 55 Yd FG?

Better question should be on that 1st down, we took a timeout just to run the toss up the middle...

This. Wing wasn't exactly on fire last night either. It was a good call.

I would absolutely love for you armchair coaches to actually have to make a decision in the heat of the moment. I look back often after games and wish I had certain decisions back.

Yeah. That's what I said. I agreed with Les believe it or not.

Taking the timeout was the right call. If South Carolina jumps early, we get the first down... and game over.

Why would our defense be calling timeout in that situation?

I watched and wondered the same thing. Ultimately he decided the penalty was worth more the the TO. The only way the TO comes into play is if SC scores with 35 seconds left. I guess Les figured that was unlikely and wanted to preserve the 5 yards. Wing did shank two punts you know...

Absolutely the right call. I have to question anyone that call that call into question. Why give up yards when you don't have to? Why make it harder for the punters ability to take away the chance of a punt return?

shut up. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him asking this question on the Tiger Rant.

Either offer something up or just stay out of the thread. No one is forcing you to read it and jump down his throat.

Miles has taken the 5 yards in the past. He tried it against Florida, but they declined the penalty. I think it had to do with the fact that their returner is a stud and Wing was punting poorly.
