Anyone have one. Wll have a pup in January. Don't hunt much anymore but after my research seemed like a great all around dog. Will probably do some hunt training just to keep him busy. Been ten years since I had to do any do training but I'm ready.

Wick not only has them and hunts with them but you can tell by his postings that he has passion for the fine things in life such as double guns and good bird dogs. By now some might would grow tiresome of threads such as this but not me. I am patiently waiting for the pics to start rolling in.

ETA: Yes, Wick can be considered the board expert for GSP threads.

look if you're planning on keeping the paid position of resident German Shorthair expert, you best be a little more prompt.

Chad has been wanting this position, and I have a feeling that his posts about German Shorthairs will be of a different nature.

I have 3, they will be high strung for the first couple of years, they slow down some at 1 and more at 2. The dogs are real good around kids and in the house, but need attention and can have seperation anxiety. I don't think it is possible to wear them out, if you run them hard you ate just building more endurance for the next outing. What kind of dogs have you had before, and Anyone have onewhat kind of trails? Upland will be limited, the South Louisiana Vizla Club has an upland AKC test once and year and there is a NSTR club around Lafayette.

My pay is access to OB members for woodcock and/or quail after deer season. Which are you going to provide?

I have had retrievers and the last 13 years mastiff. Opposite end of the energy spectrum but I'm sure if I can handle 200ld neapolitan male I can roll with a gsp.

Probably will be mostly pet. I do spend a good bit of time with my dogs and I live close to work and can bring them with me if I want. Have several acres of woodland behind my home. Pretty much going to play it by ear with the training. All my dogs will always have the basics down. Firm believer that if you can't make your dog sit, stay, come until you command you don't need a dog. Right now not interested in trials. But never know once I get the dog might get the fever

Getting him first week January. Can't wait.

They are very easy to train and 90% is already built in with instinct. With that being said, you will end up with a shock collar on that dog around 6 months of age. About that age when he is more than 10' from you he will start giving you the finger. The collar keeps them honest...

I will post some pics later when I am at the computer...

I have one now. Much less high-strung than the Weim we used to have. Both are very well suited for hunting. The Weim was a neurotic spaz if you didn't give her constant attention. Not as much with the GSP. Good choice.
