For all of you crying for a new OC or HC/OC what specifically would you change?

I am interested in specifics. I feel I have a pretty good understanding of college football and I have my on insights but all too often the people on this board simply cry for a change. It is certainly nice to hope for better production but to cry for or demand a change without suggestion of what specifically should change and an understanding of the foreseeable circumstances is always short sighted.

What specifically would you change with the offense and what adjustments would you have made in Fla game specifically?
What would your attack be to start the game?
more shotgun formation?
what different formations?
faster tempo?
more play action?
more passes across the middle?
more out passes?
more inside/outside running?
more traps?
more option?
different personel? at what positions?
insertion of some "trickeration"?

I can see your butt hurt about the hate on Les Miles from your post. It doesn't matter what I think needs to be changed or, in your case, who should be defended. We need a TRUE OC again like Jimbo and that is all, we need a man Les Miles can't walk all over.

Here is what most would like to see:

1. 1000 yards of offense through the air (with backup qb)

2. Beat all oppents by at least 150 to -60

3. 500 yards on the ground

4. SEC and NC then fire the head coach for John Gruden, who then wins SEC and NC the following season, and is fired because the back up qb threw an interception in game 3 of the season

5. Hire Nick Saban back, only to complain that he is too short, and doesn't run up the score enough

Throwing more on first down wouldn't hurt.

My 2 pesos:
- We should've taken a more aggressive tack from the very start of the season. Sure, it would have probably cost us some points but for every point it did we would be getting 2 or more in return. We had a five-game pre-season and from all appearances squandered it.
- Instead of telegraphing our trickery near the goal line after the TO, here's my play: 2 TE set, Chase (or Armand) split out wide, I-formation with Freak at FB, JC at TB, AND either PA and throw to one of the TE's in the back of the EZ or if they put a mini-CB on Chase/Armand throw a jump-ball to one of them.

ETA: I would also keep Shep on the field more. I think he's our best playmaker and biggest deep threat at WR. I would make the D account for him every single play.

All I'd like to see is for us to not go turtle at the first sign of adversity in the passing game. You aren't helping your QB's confidence that way.

I'm afraid that we have lost some weapons at the QB spot (experience and the ability to run and such). We have lost some talent and experience on the O-Line through injuries. The WR production has been inconsistant. With all of this, I feel that the answer is not as simple as a play-call, formation adjustment or coaching change. Seems like the offense has its "hands tied" so to speak and are just doing the things they feel comfortable with.

I love the logical and well thought out response of "you are butt hurt".

Does the use of this term arise solely from your ignorance and immaturity or from a history of being anally raped?

i would just like for some adaption.

it would all depend upon the line and other factors. i think with a line that isn't blocking you should throw multiple wide receiver sets.

mett actually did look good throwing the ball around late in the florida game when they let him sling it a couple of plays.

What specifically would you change with the offense and what adjustments would you have made in Fla game specifically?

What would your attack be to start the game? I would establish the run, then run play action, along with more screen passes/draws to slow down the pass rush.

more shotgun formation? Yep

what different formations? More max protect, how about dual back sets to put our best players on the field?

faster tempo? I don't think that's the answer.

more play action? YEP.

more passes across the middle? yep.
more out passes? NO.

more inside/outside running? Our running game is fine, except maybe a little too predictable.

more traps? Sure.

more option? Not with Met.

different personel? at what positions? Need to find WRs that can catch.

insertion of some "trickeration"? Trickeration always helps an undertalented offense- we can use more of it.

I agree that this is a sign of faith in the QB and is often effective. It does need to be mandated by field position though in my opinion. Deep in your own endzone is not the time to be risking a INT in what is tauted to be a Defensive game/conference. This was part of JL problem. Freaking flats passes inside of our own 30 where an INT was a sure pick6.

I do not have the time at the moment to break down the entire game but I did a little break down of the first half.

LSU had 7 posessions.
Of those we ran 27 non kick/punt plays with 9 being on the first drive, meaning all of the other posessions were 3 plays and kick.

LSU ran 12 times and passed 15 (although the stats may disagree because sacks are considered a run with lost yardage and the failed attempted jump pass was considered a rush).

On first down LSU ran for 7/11 and threw for 4/11

LSU's starting field position was in order of posession:

LSU 22, 9, 6, 21, 8, 40, and then Fla 7. LSU threw on first down in the 1st and 4th possesions which have the bolded starting position.

What may be even more telling is the sucess of those rushing and passing attempts. Excluding penalties for (1 on a rush) and against (1 on a pass), the first posession had an average rush of 4.25 yrd per attempt and 9.4 yards per pass attempt. With penalties those averages change to 8 for rushing and 6.4 for passing.

The remaining 6 posessions resulted in 3.378 yrds per carry rushing and -1 yrd per attempt passing.

This gives LSU a first half average yard per attempt for rushing of 3.66 and passing 2.46 without penalties.

Passing also resulted in 1 turnover where as rushing did not account for a turnover in the first half.

You hire an OC that can "USE THE PERSONNEL" on board and grow it to the needed one.
then,
you communicate with them BUT you LET THEM DO THEIR JOB

It is also interesting that on the 4th posession starting on LSU's own 21 that LSU attempted to pass for 3 straight plays after the two previous posessions resulted in -3 yrds per passing attmept.

The result of the 4th posession was 0 yards gained and an INT thrown on 3rd down.

What specifically would you change with the offense and what adjustments would you have made in Fla game specifically?

What would your attack be to start the game? First play, Play-action pass to a deep route so that could back the defense up. Then the offense can run.

more shotgun formation? Trips formation, bundled, doubles, the pistol was a success here.

what different formations? Wildcat, A formation without a fullback babysitting the RB- 3WR, 1 TE, 1 RB

faster tempo? No-huddle offense to change the pace.

more play action? Toss play into a flea flicker. Maybe a bootleg.

more passes across the middle? Design routes that can get the middle open. End runs deep cross to bait saftey, the other end gets inside the corner and runs a skinny post.

more out passes? I think we've done enough.

more inside/outside running? Not enough of that.

more traps? That would certainly open up some space.

more option? NO.

different personel? at what positions?

insertion of some "trickeration"? Playaction off of shepards speed sweep. Shepards reverse into a pass.

With the injuries we were probably screwed, but I would like to see what Florida did to us. We have done this in the past. Use more of the Jet Sweeps with Shep, but let him throw the ball. If Ware can throw, I think Shep can. I would like to see Shep in the wildcat. He was very sucessful doing this. Again, I would like to see him throw out of this formation. Quick passes, slants, screens, etc out of the shotgun. Cut the field in half so that Mett only needs to scan half the field instead of the entire field. If he can't read the defenses, make it easier for him to do so by using half the field. Let runs some reverses or double reverses. Misdirection is the key to keep the defenses guessing on what we will do.

All of the above could work well but is somewhat dependent on Offensive tackle performance. The ability to run a reverse is dependent on blocking the DE or getting him suckered in too shallow on the reverse.

I can agree with this.

Do you mean vertically or either side? if side to side wouldn't the D stack there stronger DB's there eventually?

1. Not be so predictable on what we're doing given the down and distance situation.

2. Not be so predictable given what personnel we have in the game (i.e. Spencer Ware/Kenny Hilliard in the game, we're running btwn the tackles. Magee in the game, some trick play).

3. Less short passes to the outs.

4. More medium routes in the middle.

5. Teach WR's not to run routes 1-2 yards in front of the 1st Down marker.

6. Playaction!

7. Draws!

8. No more bootlegs for Mett. He's not a running threat.
