I was watching this crazy arse white guy ( Razor Dobbs) on the pursuit network, Saturday after i got back from hunting. During his program he shot a big slick head with a 10mm pistol. I have seen Larry Weishun killing deer with a pistol all my life, but for some reason up until Saturday i have never ever given it much thought. It seems like a really fun way to kill some shite.

I have no experience with a 10mm round. Do any of you have thoughts regarding this? Would it be good for carry during work days out in the woods, and tracking jobs for finishing off deer and hogs?

Picutred below is what this Razor Dobbs guy shot that deer with ... Dan Hesson RZ 10MM Sportsman. Looks bad arse.

The 10MM will do everything you asked about in this topic and be a good choice.

So will a 45ACP if you would rather buy your 1911 in that caliber.

A 10mm pistol would be a very effective hunting round out to say 50 yds! I would love to get my own one day for hunting.

Just be aware that the 10mm is a very hot round and the recoil lets you know that!

Like every other round, it depends where you hit them.

I killed a spike one time with a S&W Model 10 .38 snubnose with a bobbed hammer. Double action. Less than 10 Yards.

Right behind the earhole and it doesn't matter what you use.

Pro's

You will find 45 ammo and have alot of options.
45 Ammo will be cheaper than 10mm

Con's
You may lose some distance for an effectice kill, but this will really depend on how well you can shot a pistol in any of those calibers.

A couple of the pistol hunters I know use big revolvers..in 44 or 445 with 10" barrels and red dot scopes. Can kill deer / pigs / you name it out past 100 yards all day long.

I carry a Glock subcompact in 10mm for all my wild hog hunts. I've used it a number of times.

Just seems like it would be fun to shoot with iron sights. I bet the 10 mm does buck like a sumbitch. ive never shot one...

I didn't find the recoil to be all that vicious.

I've only shot a 10mm Glock though. As much as I hate Glocks, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to shoot 10mm.

What I found so interesting about it was how you can hear it crack so much louder going down range. Obviously the round is really fast so breaking the sound barrier is no problem, but I thought it was so cool how it sounded like a damn rifle and could fit in your hand.

If I were to get a 10mm, I'd probably get a Kimber Eclipse. They are awesome.

Or, if you want the oddball, you can get a Coonan 1911 in 357 magnum...

I carry a pistol most of the time while deer hunting. I have taken doe with mine while sitting in a climber.

Razor Dobbs is one crazy guy. We tend to watch his show a good bit at the camp during hunting season. they had one episode when he was hog hunting with that same pistol.

The 10 mm Auto should be an effective round for close range deer. I love my 45's, but I'd recommend the 10 mm Auto all day over the 45 ACP. As far as I know, the 10 mm Auto is available only on a few 1911's and Glock. I think Ted Nugent sometimes hunts w/ a 10 mm Auto on his show.
