it was initially supposed to be played by Idris Elba. not sure what happened.

No idea who Alex Cross is, but Idris Elba is fricking awesome.

However, I don't hate Tyler Perry really...just his black movies (which aren't made for me anyway).

Morgan Freeman's character from James Patterson's novels. Kiss the Girls was one, there have been like 3 or 4 movies but I think there are a lot more books.

Patterson is a very efficient writer, though I think most of his stuff is garbage. The movies aren't bad though.

I'm guessing the book was good or something?

this to me seems straight to DVD with Jack from Lost and Tyler Perry.....how many other people turned down the script for those two to have won the job?

This used to be an understatement. Now it's not even true. He has a team of ghost writers pumping his drek out, and he just pastes his name in big print above their names in small print. He used to write 2 or 3 books a year it seemed. It was insane. He is definitely a formula writer and not all that talented, but his stuff usually makes good fodder for films.

There's a scene in the preview with Perry jumping with a gun to the side, and his face is so emotionless and deadpan, I just started laughing and couldn't stop.

Wish I could get a gif of that.

I didn't know that. My already low opinion of him sunk further.

The Cross novels used to be good but they have almost become comical. How many times will a serial killer attach Alex?

The ending of the last Cross book had me rolling my eyes.

The one in Africa made almost ZERO sense. He was willing to put himself in danger over and over and over and over in a lawless part of the world, all for someone he dated 25 years ago. Stupid book.

Not like the early ones were rocket science but they were far more plausible without all the nonsense in the recent books.

They are good reads for traveling because you can read a whole book on the plane since every other page is blank or has print on about half the page.

Patterson is nothing but a paycheck author now. Similar to Clancy, but in Clancy's defense, I don't believe he is in control of his faculties anymore so it is the executor of his estate that is dragging his name down with all of the "based on a concept by" crap.

Ah, okay. Now that you say that it sounds familiar, and I do remember Kiss the Girls, and was Along Came a Spider the other one..?

Yup. Along Came A Spider is the other one. That movie pissed me off because the kill a damn character who was an integral part of another book.
