Jimbo Fisher was the OC in 2003.

We have Larry the Cable guy.

So you think scoring 0 offensive points at home and getting beat by a true freshman QB on a 4 loss team is somehow better than this loss?

I'll be the first to say yes, yes I do.

We were gifted the first FG by penalties on that drive. The 2nd FG the ball was given to us at the spot of the kick. I'd venture to say the staff back in 03' would have punched it in from the 6yrd line or atleast moved the ball to the GL.

The same Jimbo Fisher that managed 0 offensive points against UF in 2003. The same Jimbo Fisher that Managed 3 points at AU in 2006 with more talent on offense than we have this year by a wide margin.

The talent on both teams is comparable.

But 03 had

Better OL
Better leadership(by far)
More experience
A better coach
NFL caliber WRs

It's hard to compare the 2 when 03' had those very important things in their favor

But you could argue that the team grew up AFTER the loss

Powerman, I appreciate your looking for a bright spot and certainly applaud your efforts. I wish I could be that positive. The offense continues to struggle under this regime and seems to have been that way for years now. If i thoght they could scrap the whole offense and just turn it around in 6 days, I would feel better. i do remember Sherrill at MSU one time putting in the Wishbone just for us when we were coached by Hallman knowing full well we couldnt stop the option play but he had an open date before playing us and had time to put in the special offense for us. I wish I had better confidence in our offensive coaches but other thn Frank Wilson, I just dont see it. Part of the Hope Im wrong crowd and know that we could turn it around but can we?

This team is nothing like the 13-1 2003 team.

That team had beaten a top 10 team in UGA and smashed another SEC opponent by 35 points in MSU.

This team struggled against an Auburn team that may go 0-8 in the SEC, and a Towson State team.

That was a one game fluke for the offense against UF, unlike the clear pattern we are seeing of offensive suckage by this squad.

Let's be real here. In 2003 there was a magic, an aura about that team. You could feel it was special. 2007 - same feeling. 2011 - same feeling.

This team just has that 2008 feel. They don't seem special. It feels like they are more lucky to win a big game than unlucky to lose one. The 03 team was the opposite.

Eta - luckily the season is only halfway done and they have a road laid out in front of them where if they win them all, they are in the title game again. Given the brutal schedule, and the way this team has performed thus far, I can't say I'm optimistic they will finish with less than three losses. I hope I'm wrong but we shall see.

But our QB probably wasn't as good. Mauck was terrible in big games.

Mauck>>>>>>>>>METT. Mauck set a LSU record for Td passes in 2003. Plus He did what he was supposed to do in a Saban offense. You don't Have to WIN the game for me. Just Don't LOSE it.

Again, that MSU team would probably be one of the bottom 2 teams on this year's schedule to date. MSU was terrible.

Other than beating up on MSU and Arizona who were both terrible, our offensive identity was pretty questionable.

We sucked against UGA on offense and managed a win. We sucked terribly against UF on offense as well.

I'm telling you, before that loss, the LSU offense was putrid against any defense with a pulse.

According to the ESPN schedule, Georgia was ranked #11 at the time we beat them.

Can't believe you'd compare those 2 teams.
That Defense was better than ours now, and our offensive was really good.

No

It wasn't

We gave up over 400 yards to UGA and let true Freshman Leak (not exactly an NFL caliber guy) torch us at home.

2012 defense through the first several games has been more impressive than the 2003 defense at that point

Everything you people believe about the 2003 team is a myth that is propped up because we were eventual national champions

Powerman - you're wrong there. The Georgia game that year was the signature win of that season and anyone who was at that game knows the feeling I'm talking about. That was two games before florida. You knew that team was special the way they handled that game.

Eta - a myth? Wow. You trolling? I'm done here trying to argue with that perspective.

Much like Auburn.

We didn't suck offensively. We scored 17 points against a top notch defense in UGA.

So beating a top 10 team is not a bigger deal than LSU not even playing a RANKED team the first 5 weeks, got it.

quote:

I'm telling you, before that loss, the LSU offense was putrid against any defense with a pulse.

And I'm telling you that LSU's offense is putrid against any defense that has players on the field.

I get your point trying to look at the silver lining, but there was not a pattern of utterly horrible offense prior to that UF game like LSU saw in the first five games this season.

That was their final ranking, they were #7 in both polls going into that game, and LSU was #11.
