I am not sure how anyone objectively leaves out a Glock? It is the AK47 of the handgun world.

I like the new XD 45 compact single stack. It will be coming out in 9mm later this year- I think.
This was by far my favorite pistol for cc that I held today. The Sig P239 in 9mm was second.

In double stack compact- leaving out a Glock 19 or 26 from any list baffling.

Great advice from this guy.

I will second him about single stack magazines. At first I was skeptical about carrying fewer rounds, but the damn thing is so comfortable, I never have an excuse to leave it behind now. And that's a good thing.

I have a Kahr CM9 and have been extremely satisfied with it. I stand behind the brand think they make great stuff. 7+1 rounds of 124gr +p Speer Gold Dots come everywhere with me when I have it on me, which is more than adequate for a close encounter. I do not feel under armed when I have my little 9mm on me.

Go to a store and hold them all. The right gun will choose you.

Nothing against Glock, but except for the Model 36, they don't make a gun that meets my personal criteria for a cc gun. I don't own a Glock, but I did cc a SA Full Size 40 S&W before finding out it was just too big for me. I also carried a Model 19 around the house, but like the SA, it just felt to big for me. Obviously, there are lots of gun buyers out there who are satisfied w/ the models 19 and 26 as they're very popular. The OP may be one of those folks. Or, he may be looking for something for pocket carry or ankle carry, in which case we're ALL our recs are not applicable.

BTW, despite owning a number of guns, I don't own an AK 47, either. Go figure. :-)

Everyone has their own opinion and personal preferences. For example, to me the phrase "double stack compact" is an oxymoron. Every gun has multiple dimensions, including at least height, length and thickness. Many times we only key in on height and length, leaving out thickness. The compact versions of a gun are compact only because the barrel/frame and grip have been shortened compared to their full size brothers; but the compact version is still just as thick as the full size. Looking only at the measurements, a gun's thickness wouldn't seem to make much difference, but in my personal carry experience, it does.

I have all of the 4 different Glock 9mm models. I enjoy shooting the 19 and 26 just as much as the 17 and 34. I also carry the 26 almost everyday and have never had a problem with comfort. Couple that with the fact that I have never had a FTF with a Glock and the answer seems obvious.

OP, your best bet is to try out different guns and pick the one YOU like. You should be able to find a nice Glock or M&P (both having good records for reliability) in your price range.
