Anybody worried about Mett's lack of looking in the middle of the field?

This is a really bad sign for a young QB. If your QB isn't putting passes in the middle of the field, it means he can't read defenses. It's just like when J. Lee couldn't do this and he kept throwing pick 6s in 08. He couldn't see the middle and often times would turn it over. SEC defenses are going to make him throw it over the middle and lock the outside down.

Hopefully it's a product of bad pass protection and the playbook setting them up...

I seriously doubt it though. We either have no confidence in our WRs/TEs going over the middle or Mett just lacks complete awareness to defenses...maybe both. Neither is a good sign.

Wasn't Mett's first TD as a tiger over the middle?

You have to actually have routes that bring recievers across the middle. LSU's route tree must only be comprised of odd numbers (except an occasional "2")

LSU went against their tendency in the Washington game by throwing slants instead of the usual lateral WR passes. They will throw deep over the middle but not the short and intermediate routes. I find them very predictable, and it allows defenses to cheat to the outside where passes then are defensed more easily.

So I agree with your premise. I don't know if it's an ability or philosophy issue, though. The effect is the same.

Mett can read defenses. I know it's different schemes, but he threw for 30+ TDs and single digit INTs in jUCO.

Well, we RARELY run routes over the middle. When we do he usually nails them.

That's what I'm wondering. And those routes against Washington seemed more like quick slants that didn't go directly over the middle if I remember right. They seemed more like one quick step off the line and the ball was released into their hands. I haven't really paid attention to routes over the middle but it wouldn't surprise me if our offensive scheme is that horrible...

We haven't been running routes over the middle since 08. It's all side lines and deep post.

Have you looked at the options he has for receivers? Lately we have been so fixated on max protection that we are only sending three recievers out against six DB's. There is often nobody to throw to over the middle.

I started watching this in the Auburn game and the Towson game astounded me. We are often keeping Two backs or one back and a TE in for blocking.

Mett is going to have to learn to throw under pressure and get rid of the ball quickly.

I feel like we never have anybody running over the middle 5 yards past the LOS

Not to mention it's pretty tough to hit 5'9 receivers in the middle of the field unless they're wide open. That's why it would be nice to see Clement and Jacobs get used a bit more like we saw Saturday.

LSU threw to the center of the field a number of times last game???

Remember the ball bouncing off of boones chest? Remember the over throw to JL?
Tight end pass? Another TE pass that never happened because of a penalty.
TD pass to OBJ?

That just off the top of my head.

His first 2 routes aren't in the middle. He usually doesn't have time or a WR to go to the middle.

Then get the frick out if you can't handle a discussion objectively looking at flaws on our team right now.
