Fans of other schools call lsu fans corn dogs. Where did this come from? I've heard it was a auburn(?) fan that took it from the Nebraska cornhuskers and changed it to corn dogs. Is this right?

it was originally a slam on Nebraska, I think by an OU fan. he penned it.

some Auburn blogger stole it and put in LSU instead of NU.

for some reason, probably due to SEC fan frenzy in general, it took off more than the NU slam did.

it is pretty funny when you consider the kind of food LSU fans usually bring to tailgates (gumbo, jambalaya, boudin balls) compared to, say, Nebraska. (brats, corndogs)

I think while attending a LSU vs Auburn game he smelled frying fish, that he related to corndogs.
Due to the fact Ala. peeps eat more corndogs than any other state except Tex. he related the corn meal smell to the only food he knew.

Auburn uses it by far the most. Last year for the Florida game I was adding fuel to the fire and was giving almost every florida fan that walked by a corn dog. Very few of them got it. I got a lot of strange looks. Moral of the story...It sucks to be a Florida Gator!

Close, first Georgia stole it and posted it on one of their boards in 2003 (Dawgrant, I think).

The problem was, LSU beat UGA twice that year, so they dropped it.

Fast forward to 2004 before the LSU Auburn game, and some AU fan decided to re-hash the corndogs thing after seeing it theprevious season on the UGA board.

The whole entire problem is that Auurn beat LSU that year, so it stuck. And we now associate it with Auburn fans.

I've got no links to prove any of this, I'm just going by memory. I was a member of the Lair at the time and remember following a link and reading the whole thing on the UGA board in 2003 and then saw it show up in 2004.

But no, Auburn fans can't really be expected to be even as creative as to Find/Replace a document, they just stole it as it was off the UGA board.

I played football in high school and was in a fraternity at LSU, so I know if you show even the slightest hint that you do not like a nickname given to you, it will stick.

However, I think other SEC schools referring to LSU fans as corndogs actually makes them look more ignorant and more redneck. I grew up in the New Orleans Northshore region. I beleive way back in the day, I tried a corndog at a parish fair somewhere. I spit it out and thought it was the most disgusting thing I had ever had and have not had one since.

When you go to sort of an event in Louisiana (the Food Capital of the U.S.), as stated earlier in this post, you have more excellent options that include etouffee, gumbo, fried oysters, barbecued shrimp, jambalya, etc. Best food in the world. These events include local festivals (we have a lot in Louisiana), fairs, even high school football games. You can even get jambalaya in Tiger Stadium. I don't really ever see "corndogs" for sale at any of these events. WHY? Because we have much better food, vendors do not even waste their time on something they are not going to sell.

I was told by a friend of mine who is a Bama fan that they call us that because we/our campus/our state always smells like "fried food". Again, this makes them look more ignorant to call us corndogs becuase that is what they smell at their REDNECK "COUNTY" FAIRS and what not. The food they smell here in LA may very well be fried, but I guarantee you it is not corndogs.

Since I do not even eat them and never will, they can call me that all they want. It does not bother me and makes me laugh because it makes them seem that much more ignorant, redneck and just flat out jealous they do not have the superb food options we have here in Louisiana.

The Cowpatties from the Plains ripped off the "corndog" reference from Big 12-2 fans who used it vs. Nebraska. The Cowpatties can't come up w/ anything original. You've ever noticed their band plays the "Imperial March" & "O Fortuna" just like most 2nd rate marching bands? Their team runs through smoke on to the field just like Miami has done since the early 90s. That's also when Miami's band started playing the "Imperial March" for their defense. They lifted the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" from UGA too. They introduced a "Tiger Eyes" logo a few yrs after LSU began using it as a secondary logo & their team jumped on that logo at midfield in '01.
