How is ESurance so much lower than other insurers?

I've been an AllState customer for more than a decade and never got in a wreck. I recently moved from one of the cheapest states in the country to one of the most expensive (LA)for car insurance, so I expected my premiums to rise.

But my new premiums were basically identical to what I paid as a 16-year old, more than a decade ago. This makes no sense since I have never been in a wreck and have no tickets for 5 years.

My ESurance quote is less than half of the AllState quote. None of this makes any sense although I'm obviously going with ESurance.

Any guesses on a) How the hell my AllState premium is almost identical to my premium more than a decade ago and b) How Esurance is so damn cheap?

Infrastructure, staff, ways that they pay claims, etc...

Esurance is owned by Allstate, you just get the coverage, and shitty customer service, they don't have to pay commissions to an agent, or residuals, all that kind of shite

I think it's Esurance that's owned by allstate

Maybe lower overhead with no brick and mortar locations?

I just don't see how a person can get $370 quoted from one and $900 from another. I understand that there is way less overheard from ESurance, but $530 worth? Seems hard to believe.

Ha. Because it's state minimum. Meaning... a cop can't give you a ticket for not having insurance, but if you get into a wreck, you're effed.

A big part is how they pay out, who they will let you get repaired at, what type of parts, what amount they total at, several factors

Not state minimum. Same policies for both.

50/100K for liability as opposed to 15/30 which is state minimum, I believe.

State minimum from AllState would still be $510

Look once you have a policy it's never going to drop. You are paying that rate for security.....you've been with Allstate and if you get in a wreck they'll pay your claim and won't drop you. Switch to Esurance or someone else for cheaper rate, get in accident in 6 months they'll drop your arse and then welcome to substandard insurance-land the rest of your days. So pay the premium for piece of mind.

Sure if State Farm quotes you a ton less think bout switching. But most likely SF won't be that much cheaper and in 5 years you'll be right back here thinking the same thing.

Eh, I've driven 11 years with one non-moving violation and zero caused accidents, along with pretty much perfect credit history.

If I don't get into an 8-car crash while 3 times the legal limit, I don't see how I'd be dropped from an insurer.

I don't know either, but I switched to them from USAA and went down $140 a month for the exact same coverage.

that's funny since allstate is probably known as the worst insurance company in America as far as paying claims

Yeah right. Allstate and SF are the best paying autoinsurers in the country my friend.

To the poster, those are rates to get you to switch. Go ahead, switch to someone like Esurance, get in a wreck and watch them drop you.

Then when you try to get SF and they ask if you've ever been dropped.....good luck. Then you'll be with Direct for substandard.

You posted the question. Louisiana is the worst state in the country for insurers. They don't need problems and you haven't been with the new company long enough. One wreck in year 1 with a new insurer and you're gone in this state. For someone young anyway.

Depends on the company Esurance is placing you with. I had a falling out with 21st Century and went thru Esurance. They placed me with Safeco.

BTW, you haven't seen shite til you get insurance in Kentucky. $2100 every six months for full coverage on an '07 Impala 9C1...cross the Ohio River into Indiana and that dropped to $600 or so.
