WRs Much Improved Blocking

Going back and watching the North Texas and Washington highlights one thing really stood out..
LSU the past few years has been a very dominant running team. We have 4 RBs that have shown they could start for most teams in the country. And that's without seeing Jeremy Hill carry the ball.
Our offensive line has been a focal point for our RBs. They have really paved the way for them running the past couple years.
Add in JC Copeland last year and our run game improved. Especially to see how much better he has become this year..
But the one thing on run plays that really stood out to me that has improved was the WRs blocking downfield. Especially Landry and Wright.
On Blue's first TD run against Washington Copeland and Landry gave him such a huge ally to run through.

The scouting report on landry was that he was real physical, in all aspects of the game. Wright is sopposed to have set himself ahead of other recievers (perhaps boone) for his ability to block.
Shep i think is the weakest jsut face up blocker. but i think he can lay a lick on someone with some mommentum

Shep is and has been a very good blocker. And in fact, LSU is and has been very good at WR blocking for years. It's the main reason our WRs go to the league, IMO. This year is no different.
Go rewatch the UGA game and the Arky game from last year. TM7s punt returns were sprung by vicious blocks from #10.

thats what i said. He can lay a lick with some mommentum, but when it comes to coming off the line and sticking a guy 5 yards in front of him, i think he is a little small.

There have been times the past few years where our run game has suffered because the lack of a physical FB and WRs not holding up their blocks.
It's great to see guys like Copeland, Landry, and Wright stepping up the way they have. Especially from 2 guys that really weren't on the field last year.

I'll go with that. I don't think it's a size thing. I think sometimes he's trying to figure out what he's supposed to do. But downfield and working on instinct, he'll knock a defenders dick in the dirt. He lays it all out doing so.

And route running/timing.

Only thing to critique from the game was OBJ. He's not keeping his eye on the ball. Looking downfield to try and turn it into a big play. That was a reason for a couple of the drops.
The big pass to Wright down the middle was a beautiful play call. Landry showed bubble screen. It froze two Washington players and Wright flies right by them.

Ive noticed that our WR are the best down field blockers than any other teams...some nfl teams at that...and i notice it every year since early 2000s....I even see it in the nfl with the receivers we have... they still block down field great

I know Reuben Randle did a pretty good job of blocking last year

We've been good in past years but this year with J.C. and JL80 who are manimals we're at another level.

it's been hit or miss for a few yrs now, but this yr it looks to be mostly hit (no pun intended). Toliver never blocked. Rueben blocked his last yr, but not much prior to that. Byrd was pretty spotty in his efforts and results.
one thing that's good to see is that we seem better in our WRs blocking on screens. that's crucial for the amt of screens we seem to wanna run, yet Bama was punking us on that last yr (granted, they tend to have big CBs, but still...).
