What Constitutes A "Trap" Game??

Can someone obviously smarter than me please explain what makes something a "trap" game? I think it's normally a game either following or preceding a big game against an opponent that one should beat. It seems that a good bit of the ranters feel otherwise. #NoGermanHopefully

That's about right, a team you should beat, but could be dangerous if you over look them, usually a road game.

Game against a mediocre opponent that your team may not take seriously and get beaten

If Alabama was in 2 weeks and we played miss state this week, it would be A TRAP!!

You're correct, but most of the people on here are just making fun of the posters who called any game that was a remote possibility of losing a trap game...even if it was sandwiched between two cupcake games.

To me an example this year would be Texas A&M. We play USCe, then go to Kyle Field for what I think is their biggest game of the year there, then host Bama. Now given, Bama is after a bye week, but it is a game that has some opportunity of being overlooked a little.
I think we'll be fine but that's my take.

usually right before or after a marquee matchup.

I always thought it was an easy game between two difficult games, hence the trap part.

A game that is against a team you should beat usually right before a HUGE game coming in the near future.
Teams fall into the "trap" of looking ahead and not takin gthe current opponent serious and boom, upset.
This year's biggest trap game for us is probably aTm. It's on the road, in a hostile environment, against a team who will be good not great, and it will be after the South Carolina game and before the bye week prior to Bama.
4 things working against you in that one:
1) Road game in loud stadium
2) week after playing a ranked opponent
3) before bye week, which means we will be banged up most likely and trying to get into the rest week.
4) it's the game right before we play bama
trap game 101

A perfect example of a "trap" game last year was the SEC championship, looking ahead to the NC and looking past a weakass UGA team...lol

A "trap game" is a contest against an inferior opponent that you should beat based upon talent, but that you might lose due to its place on the schedule (e.g. after or before a major rival, on a Thursday night, etc.).

2007 UK is the textbook definition of a trap game.
We had a big emotional win against Florida and had a very good Auburn team coming to Baton Rouge the next week. Sandwiched in between was a good Kentucky team.

Not even close to a perfect trap game. UGA wasn't awful, so there was a chance for them to win. We also didn't even know who we were playing for the Ship.
Ok St. vs Iowa State was a "Perfect" Trap Game
