our friend, tigerdroppings.com user Elleshoe is in the banned tank so i will take the reigns this week. today we pair up Nas and Jay-Z. these two rappers had a long standing feud that was pretty much settled when nas signed w/ def jam. the two ended up touring and even recording together.

jay-z/nas has always been a good, debatable topic in pre-music board td.com discussion.

Nas

Jay Z

remember, it's not just these songs to judge. I just include them for your listening pleasure

week 1: Barry Manilow defeated Michael Bolton
week 2: Simon and Garfunkel defeated Hall and Oates
week 3: Elton John defeated Billy Joel
week 4: Oasis defeated Blur
week 5: Notorious BIG defeated Tupac
week 6: Rolling Stones defeated Beach Boys
week 7: Alice in Chains defeated Soundgarden
week 8: Journey defeated Def Leppard
week 9: Pink Floyd defeated Queen
week 10: David Lee Roth Van Halen defeated Sammy Hagar Van Halen
week 11: Jay-Z Def Nas

Damn now this is a hard decision. Jay may be my favorite MC of all time but Nas is also one of my favorites. I say Nas. Jay was more consistent but Nas reached levels that Jay couldn't. Illmatic is the greatest album in hip hop history. That plus Ether puts Nas over the top.

This is one of the toughest votes you've ever had. But I'm gonna have to go with Nas, because when I saw him in the concert ended with a knife fight. (Seriously, two girls went at it about ten feet from me and then one of them drew a knife and that was pretty much all she wrote). Still the most insane show I've ever seen. Talib Kweli smoked a joint that someone threw from to the stage from the balcony.

What I'm saying is, Nas is friggin' awesome.

i would imagine yes...him and others kept getting into it over how bad BR would be post Isaac, and they did it in the main thread.

Jayzs live show is WAY better also imho. Nas may have higher highs, but he also has lower lows.

Illmatic is bar none the greatest hip hop debut of all time. Nothing comparable there. The Blueprint is another classic.

This is a perfect example of why looking at music as a competition is stupid. This isn't sports, there is no clear-cut winner. Both are hip hop legends. Hova has the better discography, but Nas' Illmatic may be the best hip hop record ever. I can't pick.
