Per WWL, the river at Robert is currently at 17.3, two feet over flood stage, with forecast of additional two feet tonight to over 19.

IMO, doubtful that failure of dam would bring river over I-12, but it could get close.

Unfamiliar with the area, but if the dam breaks, how does if affect Kenner? What body of water will flood Kenner?

Lake Ponchatrain would be the only body of water that could really affect Kenner.
Kenner is fine.

Kentwood will be affected by the Tangipahoa River flooding.

Should Houma prepare to evacuate because of this levee dam break?

The town itself should be fine, unless it is already close to overflowing (i'm very familar with the area...the river "valley" is rather deep near the town).

Jindal says they are going to do a controlled breach because they don't expect it to be a problem here in LA.

Houma should prepare to evacuate whenever a fat kid threatens to do a cannonball....

My old roommate has a second house it Kentwood. His parents are up there, but they are 1.1mi from the river on one of the highest points in Kentwood

Yep I recommend everyone south of Canada start taking a look at evacuating for this thing to be completely honest with you.

Yeah, the town should be fine but those low areas out 38 will be in bad shape. the village of Tangipohoa might be bad off. I remember it flooding real bad back in '77. I think it had more to do with debris getting caught in the overpasses. Roseland sits pretty close to the river. So anywhere between hwy 51 and the river from just south of kentwood to roseland might get it pretty bad b/c it's close to the river.

However, the railroad tracks sit pretty high and could serve as some protection possibly.

Is this expected to cause significant flooding along the river where it crosses hwy 22 between Pontchatula and Madisonville? Should that area be evacuating?

I don't think it would affect 55. There's some distance there and the water would follow the river path.

Yes, in the 83 flood Delattes had 2+ft of water in the store. I live between the store and the river and my neighbor a police officer said that we were to evacuate.
