On the entergy website it shows the areas with no power and says the lines have been turned "off". Does this mean Entergy did this manually, and once the storms over they can turn them back "on"?

This might be a stupid question but i need power by Friday

Well, since you need it.

Even if they did just turn it off, there is no way to tell what will happen if or when they turn it on.

That sounds like it could be true.
We lost power around 9 this morning and just got it back 30 minutes ago.

There is another grid near us that just got power back too and I never saw any damage around. Heard that entergy wouldn't get out in this mess with winds like this to do any repairs and I haven't seen any trucks either.

Where does it say "turned" off? All I see is green = power lines on, red = power lines off. If they're off, chances are there's a limb, tree, or line down and you may not get power back anytime soon.

The only reason it would be turned "off" would be if they are clearing debris off the line or making repairs. Otherwise something tripped them off during the storm and they have to wait for the chance to work on them/check them to make sure they are ok to re-energize.

They don't just turn the "off" for fun.

Probably not. DoItToItLars doesn't have power yet, and he NEEDS it.

well i don't technically NEED it, i just want to sleep in my own bed tonight. guess that puts me a few rungs down the ladder. trying to get one of my neighbors to brave the rain and go check it out for me. i'd be willing to break this curfew to get to my couch right now.
