Probably flies from those flea bitten dogs you own!

I just watched a sea gull try to fly into the wind. It took noise dive and pulled up just before it hit the water.

It's a gorgeous 56 degree fall day here, beautiful blue sky, light breeze and I have flies on my deck. They are a hardy lot. Slow though, easy to kill in the cool temps.

Cell phone pic. The bldg across the street is the Alaskan Brewing Co. Ever watch Northern Exposure? It was the beer sign hanging in the bar.

Early fall, it looks like. Probably will get down to 40 in some of the valleys tonight.

Walked around the front of my shop during the heavier winds, startled a pigeon that had lost a lot of feathers, he flew up and then the wind took him across the street.

When we are having 80 knot winds in January, it will more than make up for it...

We have a couple days a year when we have hurricane force winds combined with cold temps, and it's rough. About the only bad weather we have though

They blow off of the icefield and are called Taku winds

They can blow between 50-90 mph for days

It only lasts a couple of days, and is downtown. Sheltered areas (like my house) get no Taku Winds. You may get 2-3 episodes of this rare phenomenon a winter.

My office used to be downtown though and you would get those damn winds funneled between buildings at a steady 80-100 mph, and temps around 5 degrees or so. You just stay inside and avoid downtown if possible.

Area between the bridge downtown Juneau and the mouth of the Taku River about 8 miles away are the only places that get this rare affect. They have been known for centuries to the natives as the Devil Wind.

It;s basically sustained tropical storm/hurricane force winds in cold, clear weather.

Yeah, they need to rename their facility in my honor. The "RTS Brewing facility at the Alaskan Brewery" or something along those lines. I drank a shite ton of their stuff back in the day.

Supposed to get frost tonight, and I guess we had termination dust on the tops of the mountains last night. It is fall, officially.
