There's always a couple barges that break loose. Doesn't surprise me.

they need to start levying HEAVY fines for shite like this. those barges should be moored so well that there is no chance of them breaking loose. we should have learned our lesson from katrina with that shite

i have family on both sides of the river right there. bro in arabi, mom in algiers.

The levee in algiers is strong. during katrina a barge busted into the batture and that fricker held strong!

Don't understand why things like this aren't penalized heavier than they are. It's completely absurd these folks don't take additional precautions after the fiasco that ensued during Katrina.

ST. BERNARD, La. -- Local officials are investigating two incidents in southeast La. involving boats becoming loose in the water during Hurricane Isaac.

The first incident happened around 10 p.m. A cargo ship, the Federal Lida, broke away from the mid-channel bowie system it was tethered to near the Luling bridge.

Capt. Mike Rooney of the NO-BR Steamship Association said the vessel is now not loose and in no danger of hitting the Hwy. 11 bridge.

Lt. Commander Brandon Sullivan, of the Coast Guard New Orleans Command Center, said it isn't out of the ordinary for a vessel to detach in the river.

In the second incident around 1 a.m., a barge broke loose in Chalmette Flip, hit and sunk an unoccupied 47-foot crew boat.

Deputies and the barge owner were contacted and are on the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries in either incident.
