Retif Oil (New Orleans) plays against Bellevue, WA for a chance to play in the championship game tomorrow. You can catch the game on ESPN3 if you're interested. I normally wouldn't care, but I work with somebody that has a kid playing for Retif.

Headline is confusing b/c the text says this: Retif is the only undefeated team among the four that remain in the tournament. Retif plays Bellvue, Washington approximately 7 p.m. (Monday,
August 20). The games tonight will determine who is in the championship game with Retif on Tuesday.
Why are they playing tonight of they eared a berth?

Retif oil is Jesuit right?
Posted on 8/20/12 at 7:46 pm to threeputt
So if they win tonight, the other team has to beat them twice tomorrow, right?

They aren't in the championship tonight. Win or lose they play for the championship tomorrow. If they win tonight they have to be beaten twice tomorrow. If they lose tonight, there will only be one game tomorrow.

Yes

No. Championship game is winner take all.

That's not how it reads. It reads as though Tuesday is one game for it all.

So the website posted is wrong. Cool. Pretty common for an If game when it's double elimination, not in pool play though.

Then why the heck have them play tonight; it is a 100% meaningless game for them. Don't you think?
JUst makes no sense if that is how the championship is.

The format doesn't make sense. Pool play typically results in single elimination afterwards. As far as why make them play tonight, so they have to use their pitching like every other team.

See your link doesn't make sense either. It says winner of game 12 vs winner of game 13 to play in game 14 which is the championship. Then game 15 is the IF game. So if you go by your link, they have to win tonight to make it to the championship. It's all screwed up. Basically we should not go by any of the links and just know they're in the finals tomorrow.

It looks like they'll start at 8:20 PM CST.

I think I will go with this

I agree! If they win tonight they play in game 14 tomorrow, and game 15 if they lose game 14. If they lose tonight, then Bellevue will play Brooklawn in game 14, and the winner of that game plays Retif for the championship. I guess they are being rewarded for being undefeated, but it's not much of a reward.
