Gotcha. Just was basing my opinion off of the artwork released around the series showing Dorne with Arabic arches and minarets.

Here is a quote from Martin himself:

"In the case of Dorne, yes, Wales was definitely an influence, for all the reasons you cite. But there's also some distinctly unWelsh elements down there. South of the wall of mountains you have a hot, dry country more like Spain or Palestine than the cool green valleys of Wales, with most of the settlements along the seacoast and in few great river basins. And you also have the flavor given the culture by the great Rhoynar influx led by Nymeria. I suppose the closest real life equivilent to that would be the Moorish influence in parts of Spain. So you could say Dorne is Wales mixed with Spain and Palestine with some entirely imaginary influences mixed in. Or you could just say it's Dorne...."

Here is kind of a breakdown from the wiki:

"The Rhoynar were a slender people with smooth olive skin, black hair and dark eyes. Their impact on the Dornish gene pool is strongest along the coast, and grows faint farther inland. Dornishmen with more Andal and First Men blood are larger and fairer than those with more Rhoynish.

According to King Daeron I's observations during his wars in Dorne, there are three group of Dornishmen:

Salty Dornishmen live along the coasts, mainly along the Broken Arm region, where the Red Mountains stretch out into the Sea of Dorne. These Dornishmen are lithe and dark, with smooth olive skin and long black hair. They are fishermen and sailors, hard men who sail the ships of the Dornish fleet.

Sandy Dornishmen live in the deserts and the long river valleys, faces burned brown by the hot Dornish sun, they are even darker than the salty Dornishmen.

Stony Dornishmen live in the passes and heights of the Red Mountains. They have the most Andal and First Men blood and mostly resemble the other people of the Seven Kingdoms in look, customs and traditions. They are brown-haired or blond with faces that are freckled or burned by the sun."

I think the Viper has a salty Dornish look if I remember right. But the Dornish can be anywhere form fairly light skinned to fairly tan/dark. the food is clearly New Mexican/Mexican/Spanish with all the spices and hot peppers as well.

I always pictured the dornish as italian/spanish and the red vibor as a smaller sleazier Javier Bardem.

Yeah, a skinnier Bardem would be perfect.

Do y'all think they're going to introduce Oberyn in Episode 1? Me thinks that is a big possibility.

Would think by the end of the first episode or beginning of the 2nd anyway. Probably have a meeting where Tywin discusses Mace Tyrell and the Martells coming for the wedding during the first episode and bring up all the past history and what not, then have the group show up.

I reread the duel the other day, still felt like the Viper was going to win.

He had the fight won. And someone with his experience wouldn't have been that careless to get within The Mountain's reach.

But for storytelling reasons, he had to lose to set up:
- Mountain confessing to the crimes before everyone assembled.
- Tyrion being condemned, being freed by Jamie, killing Tywin and running off across the narrow sea which developed his arc tremendously.
- Robert Strong
-The Prince of Dorne finally putting his plans in effect as to Danny and now young Griff.

I was thinking that would be towards the start of the first episode, maybe the very first scene. If I had to take a guess, Joffrey will die in the 4th episode, to where we'll need some bonding time with him.

How I see the first episode starting out is Tyrion tells Bronn with a group of other lords that he is awaiting Doran Martell and that he is calm and docile to where this won't be a problem. As the Martell party approaches, one of the Tyrell men is able to recognize Oberyn from the distance and tells Tyrion that it isn't Doran who is coming. Tyrion lets out a "frick me" and slight shutter. Oberyn is a bit sarcastically pissed about Joffrey or Tywin not coming to greet him. They then ride off to the castle after exchanging a few more sarcastic jabs between one another.

Towards the end of the episode, Oberyn comes to Tyrion's chambers to share a drink with him and tells him how he previously "met" Tyrion when he was younger. Oberyn then tells him his suspicions that Tywin is not going to go through on his end of the agreement, and regardless if he does, he wants the man who gave the Mountain the order on killing his sister.

Episode 2 will be the Small Council and Oberyn will directly confront Tywin with his terms. As they all leave (minus Tyrion), Tyrion tells him that they'll have to meet his terms, and Tywin telling Tyrion he refuses to give over the Mountain and will tell him that Amory Lorch did it at his own accord.

Episode 3 we have another bonding moment with Oberyn and Tyrion, and 4 will be the wedding itself.

They have to have the meeting with Tywin or someone to give some background on the Martells and Tyrells, otherwise the show watchers will be clueless to who they are or what they are there for. I doubt half of them remember Cersei's daughter at all, much less her being sent to Dorne in season 2.

Could very well happen in the middle of the first, but they usually like to setup all the characters for the most part in the first episode.

I think the Purple Wedding is happening no later than Episode 4 and possibly as early as Episode 3. So between Episodes 3-4. . I would say Episode 2, buttttt the show runners like using episodes 1 and 2 as set up episodes for all the POV characters.

I'm also curious how they're going to handle Jaime being in King's Landing before the wedding..which is why I'm guessing that the wedding's not happening too late in the season. Plus Sansa has to get to the Eyrie, so that won't happen too late either.

Yeah, I'm guessing that the First Episode "Previously on GoT recap" is going to include the scene from Season 2 with Myrcella going to Dorne and Cersei bitching at Tyrion about how the Martells don't like the Lannisters, why would he send her to Dorne, conversation that happened during Season 2.

And also, they definitely need to build up the Tyrell-Martell tension, especially since Oberyn crippled Willas, and neither really had a great relationship to start with. Mace certainly has no love for the Dornish in the books.

Yep, you are probably right on with the recap. I'll be interested to see how they handle the Martell-Tyrell stuff since they haven't included Willas so far and made Loras the oldest son in the series.

I agree on the PW, it pretty much has to go down by episode 4 to make the rest of the season run smoothly.

I think they can do most of that later. They were merely expecting Doran, who they didn't think would be any problem. The Red Viper is a game changer though for Tyrion and Tywin. You can have Tyrion, Bronn, and Pod briefly discuss why the Martells are coming up while they're waiting for them.

The Red Viper needs to be established as early as possible and shown to be a main character, not a guest star, to where the audience will be shocked by his pretty immediate departure. Making him the opening scene will easily tell the audience that this guy is a pretty big deal and is not to be underestimated.

As would a background discussion beforehand of the Vipers exploits. Could go either way I guess. They definitely need to get him setup early so he's established for the wedding and aftermath.
