If you were Tyrann Mathieu, would you ...
Transfer to a non-Division I team and play
or
Stay at LSU as a student and go in next year's NFL Draft
so far 70 percent say they would transfer
30 percent said they would stay

Proving to the NFL that he got his crap straight would be HUGE for him. That plus he gets to be a Tiger. Win-win.

this doesnt make sense I thought the plan was for him to sit out a year continue to attend classes at LSU then play football at LSU in 2013 then go pro, if it really is between playing immediately at another school or going to LSU for 2 semesters and playing no more football then the answer is easy

5. Make a statement to the rest of the country that LSU is a special place. A scholarship here is not a birthright, it's a privilege, and it's worth sacrificing for, and fighting for.
What a statement that would be to future recruits (dude would go down as my all time favorite player hands down)

he has already set his value in the NFL.
mainly: PR and optionally: special teams.
he's never going to be any faster or taller. maybe he can cover, and maybe he cant, but playing vs NW State for McNeese is not going to help anyone know what the NFL would be like for him.
I would sit out and take speech and communications courses and some accounting. Work with a pro trainer, stay flexible, improve cone and 40 times.
be happy. stay clean. go to a psychologist twice a week. stay clean.

Why would he stay at LSU and not play football for a whole year? That would be dumb.

select mate from current junior females at LSU.
learn something he really wants to learn.
he's got a year to wait. does he do it in a uniform and get his knee taken out or does he do it while engaging in scholastic and relational pursuits.

Could he play intramural football?

playing againts cupcakes does nothing for him at this point either. It may be better for him to stay the course and show that he can maintain a positive life outside of football. That would take care of issues NFL teams may have with his character. Nothing he does on the field against FCS teams is going to help him.

Basically what Otto and everyone else said. Huge PR move. Shows NFL that he is a "character guy" and not all about himself. He could potentially bring his stock and future NFL money back up if he stayed clean/followed through.

It would be a huge PR move for LSU too.

staying would be stupid. He isn't going to graduate anyway before going pro. You keep clean, go play D1, and then go pro. It worked out pretty well for the db from florida this past year, as he was drafted in the second round. He needs to continue playing football, and this is what he will do. It makes no sense to just sit out and not play. He will play football, watch.

and he couldn't do this while on the field?

If he isn't playing he won't be staying clean.
