Lessons from the Oregon game preparation?

I remember reading a lot last year about how the Tigers prepared for Oregon's hurry-up offense, specifically with two offenses alternately running plays while giving the D very little time to catch their breath. Various players commented that they were in much better shape than usual because of that routine, and I thought it sounded like something that could become a standard part of our pre-season work. I later read, however, that some of the D linemen had lost a fair amount of weight as a result and that they had purposely put it back on over the weeks after the Oregon game in preparation for SEC play.

So....the question for all you football theoriticians is: Has anyone heard about any plans to incorporate the "Oregon drills" into this year's pre-season work? And do you think such work should be a standard part of our pre-season prep? What's more important for the linemen: maximum aerobic fitness or weight?

Les said last year that he would incorporate the routine throughout the year. I assume he still uses it.

Hopefully he did. LSU dominated teams in the 2nd half last season due to their pre-season endurance workouts.

That kind of prep in the oppressive Louisiana heat is what pays off so well later on. Those November/Dec games when me make their asses quit. IE- standing toe to toe with Bammer in "the game that didn't count......of the century", Arky & Georgia.

I certainly agree with all of you, but it sounded later like at least some of the linemen thought they had lost too much weight in the push to get ready for Oregon. I think the results over the rest of the season speak for themselves, but I didn't really know how to take what seemed to be some mild complaints coming from the line. Maybe they just didn't want to have to go through that hell again this year!

the new roster indicates that a large % of the players have been doing more bulking up than Aerobics, Chase clements weight jumped out as did the Oline with lots of 300+ pounders.

Absolutely...especially when teams from other regions have to come play down here...even if it is later on in the season (Nov/Dec), they still are not used to the temperatures at that time period.

Since your opening against North Texas they can probably do a lot of things since the real first game will be Wash

The Oregon tempo will be needed for A&M but that will be more like West Va offense

Les has said they would keep that type of up temp in the schedule. Haven't heard this year if that is the case or not.

Y'all hadn't heard? Miles is a dumbass, and couldn't possibly come up with something as slick as using two offenses to prepare for Oregon - I mean, unless Saban told him to do it or whatever.

Freakin Oregon last year. That game was priceless. All that fancy, high powered, newfangled offense looked absolutely pedestrian againt us.

That game wasn't nearly as close as the score, which wasn't close. Someone said it earlier in this thread about us making their asses quit. That happened REPEATEDLY. I don't know if it was due to our teams conditioning, depth, or both, but teams did do absolutely that - quit - against us. Bama even quit (see Ford's run in OT). I freaking LOVE CLM.

I cannot WAIT for this season to start. Don't y'all get the feeling that this team doesn't just want to win - they want to hurt people. With the talent lining up, that's scary.

Last years defense was tailor made to beat the spread. And we did. But we showed weaknesses at times when teams just lined up against us.
