I know I am an exception and OT Poor, but how many shares do you guys buy at a time? I looked into buying some Apple but I would be embarassed holding 3 shares.

volume of shares isn't that relevant.

Yeah, you are right. I just need to do it on the next pullback. If there is one.

I usually trade in round lots of 1000. It makes it easier for my broker to work in the trade without affecting the liquidity of the markets.

One reason I asked is because when I watch the ticker, the smallest trade that ever goes through is 100 blocks. I am guessing that is the lowest they show?

own 106 from 373 a share. I haven't bought on any pullbacks b/c I need diversification in a big way.

Well I can't say my timing has been that great. The last time I sold any, I sold 20 shares @ $150

Ever since then I've been buying the whole way up. Averaged in at about $400. It's hard to say. You never get hurt taking a profit, and you can't brag about gains till you sell. I would sell half if I felt:

A. Outsized gain very quickly >20%
B. if apple trades at a P/E say above 25
C. I see someone taking market share (unlikely NOK and RIMM have failed miserably and I expect FB to do the same)

But while there may be choppiness, you own apple with 5 years time frame at least

I think my dad bought heavily into AAPL in the mid-80's. He stubbornly rode the roller coaster for decades, and now ....

ETA: we also had one of these bad boys back in the day:
