Probably been discussed before, but it's the first I've heard of it:

Limits Loom for Staffs of the SEC
quote:

Beginning Aug. 1, N.C.A.A. legislation passed this year will restrict the number of strength and conditioning coaches a football program can have to five. Some in the SEC have had as many as 12. The N.C.A.A., as part of an initiative started in 2011 by President Mark Emmert, created a group to try to determine ways to curb the rising costs associated with major college athletics. That group dissolved, but there have been amendments to Bylaw 11, which deals with the number of noncoaching personnel each athletic program is allowed.

No big deal. Containing costs is a good thing. This seems to be reasonable area to contain.

I don't think LSU, Bama, Ohio St, Nebraska, Texas, Florida, etc, care about how much their S&C staffs cost them. The reason this is an issue is because other schools don't like how much those schools are spending. It's not a cost cutting deal, it's levelling the playing field deal.

Seems like our players are already finding ways around this. TONS of them as far back as Ricky Jean Francois in the offseason after 2007 were utilizing specialized personal trainers outside of the confines of the LSU S&C Staff to supplement their workout regimens in the offseason.

I know lots of former Tiger players who are now in the League are also coming back in for offseason drills. Beyond that, local trainers are doing work with small groups of Tigers as well. Its somewhat of a cottage industry.

I don't see this slowing down any of the major programs one bit.

The NCAA needs to stop its interference with issues it has no valid interest in.The next thing you know the NCAA will be telling teams what color jerseys they can wear...
