Decline in Bass quality over the years

I've been bass fishing for around 10 years now, (since I was 10) and over the years I've noticed a steady decrease in the size of fish that are caught in the area lakes and rivers here in central La.

I can remember fishing with my dad years ago and catching 4 and 5 pound bass nearly every time we fished. Now I'm happy to land a 3-4 pounder.

I'm wondering if anybody else has noticed this and what do you think is causing the decline in fish quality?

More boats on the water than when you were a kid. More people think a fishing trip was only a success if they keep every fish they catch. This means less of them. Here we go.

nope

It's probably all in your head. We always remember things as better than they actually were.

I read somewhere that it takes almost 11 years or something like that for a bass to reach 5 pounds so if a lot of people keep every 2 pound bass they catch then the lakes aren't gonna have many mature bass.

Nah it takes about half of that time to reach 5 pounds. But I catch bigger bass more often now than I did in years past.

I mostly fish Toledo Bend now, but I still catch pretty good fish in the waters I fished growing up when I do fish them these days.

I want to fish Toledo so bad but I don't quite have a boat capable of taking me yet.

We fished a tourney yesterday in a local lake and 7.7 pounds won. Everybody there caught 6-10 yearling bass under 12 inches. It may just be the weather or time of year, but I've noticed this trend in the past few years.

Most anything will work fine as long as the wind isn't whipping. If it is, I really don't want to be on the lake in anything. Just might take you longer to get where you are going.

It's alright man, I'm sure you have a lot in common with the middle aged men of whom I frequently whip their arse in competition.

Not everyone under 35 is a "whipper-snapper" anymore.

I love Toledo. Never know when your next fish will be a monster.

Caught these two the last two weekends:

Those are some hawgs man, congrats. That top one is a monster. I would love to catch one that size on top water. Or hell, any way for that matter.

The top one was 7 pounds 6 ounces and the bottom one 6 pounds 7 ounces

I caught the bottom one and my best friend caught the top one. He didn't really get to fight it either, it got hung on a stump almost immediately and by the time we got to it and got it around the stump it was already worn out.
