Have you posted anything about The Nashville Teens - "Tobacco Road"?
(John D. Loudermilk is himself, quite a Story.)

My favorite version:

The Blues Magoos

Watch the whole thing and listen for the classic explanation at the end

Ah . . . felt like I needed a tab of Orange Sunshine, for that . . . The Teens' version is tight, and concise.

Anybody know any of these guys? Or anything about them? Or the Zandak label of Alexandria? Something tells me there is an interesting story here...

I dimly remember that a friend's brother and maybe (sister, cousin?) from Opelousas were part of the Popsicle. Last name Vincent. Haven't been closely in touch with my friend for a while since he moved to Alabama. That's all I got.

But on the topic of whatever this topic is or was-here's a neat track that made my collection of 45 rpm singles. The Leaves.

Larry and The Blue Notes - "Night of The Sadist" (1965, unreleased)

Classic of macabre rock from Fort Worth (the city that also gave us a few years later the even weirder "DOA" by Bloodrock). This version of the song was not released, as the band's manager feared the FCC and/or radio stations would ban it for using the word "sadist" in the title (remember, this was only a year after the infamous FBI investigation of "Louie Louie"). Another version was done called "Night Of The Phantom", and under this title was later covered by '80s bands The Fuzztones and The Chesterfield Kings.

Do you have a Cut of Bloodrock's "DOA"?
I saw them in June, 1971.

Sorry for the smartassness, but I don't keep this stuff locked up in my safety deposit box. We can all partake of it -- every man a king.

Oh alright here

That was good stuff. Psychedelic light show for prime time TV.

No, Man, Celebration Of Life, near McCrea, La.
An Absurdist Event, ranking as the Nadir of Pop Festivals.

Give a man a link to youtube, he can watch one video

Teach a man to search youtube, and he can rob musicians of royalties for the rest of his life

Okay, thanks - I wasn't sure.
There is a recent 30-Minute Documentary, on the "Celebration Of Life" Fiasco: McCrea 1971. Have you seen it?

The Creation - "Painter Man" (1967)

The underappreciated Creation, lip-synching this pop-sike classic on German TV. Their bottom-heavy sound is sort of a mix of The Move and post-Mod, pre-Tommy Who.

Zep fans take note: the clip shows Eddie Phillips playing guitar with a bow. Just one more thing Jimmy Page copied*

*Although supposedly Bo Diddley (a trained violinist) had done it earlier, so I guess Eddie stole it too
