I've been looking over the 2012 Tiger football roster and thinking about where the Tigers could use some quality depth. I am hoping a good number of last year's Redshirts can make a solid impact by playing quite a bit.

Scholarship Redshirts are as follows:

Mickey Johnson, Quentin Thomas, Jonah Austin, Corey White, Trai Turner, Justin Maclin(So), Micah Eugene, Jalen Collins, Paul Turner, and the two QBs, Steven Rivers and Jerrard Randle.

I know that it takes a while to develop O-linemen, and the Tiger depth looks pretty good there this year. Three stalwarts, Dworacyzk, Hurst and Lonergan will graduate this year, though. So, I look to see development and some playing time here and there for those Redshirts and La'el Collins.

I am really hoping that Quentin Thomas, Mickey Johnson and Justin Maclin make a contribution to replace the depth lost when Brockers, Adams and Dennis Johnson completed their careers. Maybe Jared Allen can begin to contribute as a Soph now.

I have read that Jalen Collins will be a big part of the Tiger secondary this season. I hope Micah Eugene can contribute, as well.

Hopefully, Paul Turner can support the WR corp, and the Tigers definitely need to quickly develop Rivers and Randle as back-up QBs.

I really haven't heard or read anything difinitive on a lot of these guys. I know they came to LSU with a lot of promise, and I'll be looking to hear good things about them during August.

If anybody has any opinions or news about these redshirts, I'd enjoy hearing about them.

I hope Mickey can make some noise on the DL. He has unreal strength.

I remember when we stole Maclin out of memphis I was really excited about his potential to be a star here right out of the gate. Had the size right out of high school, his tape was impressive and he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. Time for him to make an impression. Anybody know what the deal's been? I know we're stacked up front but still.

Collins and Eugene will play the most this year IMO. Turner as well as those 2 will see time on special teams.

Yeah I thought Maclin was going to be a stud but I haven't heard much about him either.

I'm guessing you went against him one or two times in week 2 of 2009/2010.

I got to play basketball with Quentin Thomas in the Rec Center the other day, and the kid looked really strong and athletic with his size. I felt extremely lucky that we were playing basketball so that he isn't allowed to tackle me LOL cuz that would be a nightmare! Oh and he seems to be a very polite and well educated young man.

That's a nice comment. It's good to hear good things about the character of Tiger players.

Of these I really feel like you're going to see Eugene and Collins get the most significant playing time as our secondary depth is gonna be a little weak next year after losing Simon, Reid, and TM this year. We need to develope there quickly as to not lose what has been a huge strength for us for years.

The one that could have the biggest impact though is Johnson. This dude has consistantly been compared to Kyle Williams and Chad Lavalais(sp) due to unreal strength, very quick first step, and size of course... the only thing I've heard is that he has to work on keeping his pad level low and he could be a stud along the D-line as soon as this year.

I'm hoping so. I went to high school with him. He was in 8th grade when I was a senior and still, everyone already knew who he was. He could have started on the DL my senior year (we really could have used him because DT was our one weakness )

I used to see him on campus this past year and he would go out of his way to come talk to me. He's a really good kid.

I like seeing this! So far, consensus is that Jalen Collins, Micah Eugene, Mickey Johnson, Paul Turner and Quentin Thomas may contribute significantly. There is hope for Maclin.

I have seen no knowledgable comments about those redshirt O-linemen. I seem to have the feeling that Corey White is showing lots of promise.

Mickey still may be headed to the OL, but much of that may depend on the development of the younger offensive lineman, rather than anything Mickey is doing. I hope he stays on defense, as that appears to be a more natural position for him, but he has the physical tools to be a dominating, aggressive offensive lineman.

from people that i know who know mickey say that he is dumb as a rock. apparently he will be more slow to develop but should be a stud in a year. i think he will see some time this year. logan, freak, ego, downs, and then allen and mickey maybe
