Nets president Billy King and Lopez’s agent, Arn Tellem, are finalizing the length of the deal — four years for $58 million, or five years for $78 million — and ironing out protections on the back end to account for a right foot that Lopez broke twice in the past year, sources said.

has any player ever rode the hype wave further? when he was at stanford, i was a big fan, thought he would be a great big man and building block for a championship level team. but 4 years later, hes just not that guy. hes a nice player who gets hurt too much. cant believe hes about he get near max money

Here’s the rub: Once Lopez re-signs, he can’t be traded until December

Nice player but doesn't play defense and rebound at the level that a big man with his size and skill should to be getting paid that kind of money.

Honestly I think the Hawks should go get Howard and try to keep him by going after CP3

Just wait until the Magic pussy foot around waiting for an awesome offer that wont come and everyone really low balls them and they end up stuck with him for the rest of the year knowing hes going to walk for nothing

:smh:

I'd pay him, but I sure as frick wouldn't give him the only 5-year contract you have on the roster when you've got Deron Williams around and guards have a longer shelf life than big men.

I don't think it gets to that point.

The Magic have been dealing with Howard's bullshite for too long now to suffer through another 7-8 months of it when you can get a good deal from the Lakers, Rockets, and/or Hawks that lets you move on.

They were saying on ESPN earlier that this a ploy to get the Magic to realize that the nets will move on if they have to

You'd think that the Nets taking on shite-sandwich contracts for Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace would make that point clear enough for the Magic.

This team gets a lot worse if they sign Lopez and not move for Howard. It would be dumb for them to sign him, especially after signing Deron and trading for Joe. If I'm the Nets, I'm calling every team to try and get Lopez out of there.

I really want Howard in Brooklyn or the Lakers. He becomes as transparent in Houston as he was in Orlando in that you won't see much of him and the Hawks wouldn't have enough to make it out the first round with Howard

"Hawks I'm told still think they're alive in the Dwight trade chase. With plenty of pieces to offer and Josh Smith to lobby Howard to stay."

Marc Stein: Source close to process says Portland & Charlotte have indeed told Brook Lopez they're ready to sign him today to four-year max offer sheet Twitter

Worst contract?

Lopez - 5 years 78 million
Johnson - 5 years 98 million
Hibbert - 4 years 58 million

I think probably Lopez

There are only two reasons Lopez would edge out Johnson.

1. Lopez' deal was signed under this CBA, meaning there is only one 5-year deal that can be offered per team.

2. Johnson's production is reasonably close to the point where you could justify his salary.

Lopez is getting paid purely on potential as well as a scarcity at his position. It's sure as frick not because he's going to be the next Howard or even the next Marc Gasol.
