The Best American Bands...Ever

This is a pretty good article that ranks the best American bands ever.
LINK
IMO, the most interesting part is the introduction. The UK is known for bands - Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Kinks, Clash, Who, Oasis, Muse, and on and on.
The US is known for individual artists - Elvis, James Brown, Dylan, Prince, Michael Jackson and so on. Even some of the most popular US bands start with an individual name - Springsteen & the E Street Band, Petty & The Heartbreakers, Buddy Holly & The Crickets.
Just one of those things that make you go hmmmm.
Here's their list if you're too lazy to click.
25 to 1
Big Star/Eagles
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Wilco
Pearl Jam
Replacements
Byrds
Van Halen
Grateful Dead
Sonic Youth
Metallica
Parliament Funkadelic
Public Enemy
The Stooges
Pixies
RHCP
CCR
Beastie Boys
Doors
Allman Brothers
Talking Heads
Beach Boys
Velvet Underground
Ramones
Nirvana
REM
and, yes, I have many problems with it.

Just off the top of my head, no Black Crows? Blind Melon? Steely Dan? Boston? Chicago? The Cars? CSNY? Smashing Pumpkins? Stone Temple Pilots? Sublime? Van Halen? Guns n Roses?

Van Halen is on there. But yeah, you could remove pfunk, PE and several others to add more deserving bands.
The Dead should be top 5ish and I'm an REM fan, but I don't know if I would have them #1.

At least half that list sucks, and while I like REM putting them first is preposterous

If the Allman brothers aren't first then the list is bullshite

Since when do any of those guys play a musical instrument or sing?

KISS can't even get love in their own country?

no matter how many times you reference that band, or how much praise zappa had for liking them... it wont take away the fact that the band is horrendous.

they intentionally made the distinction that singular artists would not be counted only bands.
