Conducted each May by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Canadian Wildlife Service, the survey puts the duck population at 48.6 million birds. That represents a 7 percent increase from 2011's record number of 45.6 million.

Last year was one of the worst seasons I have ever had. So if this trend continues I just as soon keep fishing through the winter.

Population increases, but harvest numbers decrease. Seems like the birds are getting smarter.

It's the nets they put up North of Arkansas. The ducks can't fly over them.

You notice that all the conservation money from LDWF went to DU this year? Is this the norm? Makes you wonder whos pocket they're in.

E-mail I received yesterday from a guy at the meeting...

Guys,
I attended the LA Wildlife and Fisheries commission meeting this morning with a small crew of BR Delta guys.
In summary, we did not receive any funding for the next three years. The commission voted to allocate it all towards DU.

A lot less water up north this year, so breeding success won't come close to matching last years hatch. So the birds you had trouble killing last year will be a little wiser.

I can only imagine how bad it will be on the Wax this year. Quit hunting it in the mid 90s when I graduated from LSU, went back a few years ago during the second split and it was freaking scary the yahoos running all over the place.

This is what makes duck hunting so crazy. I am not bragging but we killed them pretty damn good last year. I would be satisfied if every year was like last year for us. Seems like everytime the ducks started getting skinny a new wave would show up. I am afraid water is going to be an issue this year for me. Do not stress out though, I have a plan!

I just imagine some rednecks using explosives to blow up a levee or something.

Now all we need is a few more members but I don't think that will be a problem either.

Shouldn't have any problem with this. People are always wanting into duck clubs. Where's this at?
