ID4 Question: Does President Whitmore get reelected?

Initially you'd think he literally fought to get rid of the aliens so he's a shoe-in but his opposition has more than a few soft spots to hit him on.
- Delay in decision to evac the major cities likely killed tens of millions.
- Not knowing beforehand about the existence of aliens. Sure he had "plausible deniability" but how long will that hold before people stop believing him and just think he was lying all along?
- Finally the nuclear destruction of Houston. This one would really hurt. He was told beforehand it wouldn't work and he did it anyway making a pretty large swath of America uninhabitable for decades.
Add on top of all of these the inevitable slow rebuilding of NYC and LA he would be getting killed by the media by the following Christmas.

You do realize current nuclear weapons are much, much, much, much more potent than the original atom bomb, right?

Either way it's not going to be until after he's dead.

yeah, but the potency comes from the fusion reaction which has no fallout. Only the initial smaller fission reaction creates fallout and those have gotten cleaner since the inception of the a bomb.

Actually getting in the cockpit of a fighter jet and shooting down alien scum pretty much forgives all of those sins.

I think he'd have to explain why he didn't utilize the Army or any kind of land forces in that last battle.
