Simply put, I have not been able to find a place like this in Baton Rouge. I know some people may not like this style of pizza but I love it. Any suggestions?

Pizza Man has its own flare and is good for sure. They could invest in some money to give the place a paint job and new ceilings. The ceiling and paint hasn't been addressed since it opened aroun 1913 or so.

I do worry about that flare after August 1st when the new Johnny's opens though.

I grew up on that style of pizza, but so far I can't find any comparable place like it in Baton Rouge. I agree the place is a dive.

I'm from Covington and my wife is from BR. We always go to the Pastime downtown for our pizza when we're in BR for Football or Baseball games. It's about the closest you'll find in BR.

If Johnny's isn't the best pizza on the NS, your F&D board credibility is toast.

Should I give it the Tom Fitzmorris 6 moths before I try it out?

Is Johnny's a greasy thin crust pizza? I really wish I could get Pizza Mans recipe.

Never had Johnny's. I agree that Pizza Man is the best on the NS. Very similar to Tower of Pizza.

Pizza Man has been my favorite for years. I used to get a half baked and bring it home. I always like the fact that it reheats just as good too. shite I'm craving it more now.

I'd tell you who in BR had pizza like Pizza Man if I had even a clue what Pizza Man pizza was like.

Pizza Man is good but the service is bad there. Still think there's better pizza places though.

No. They have one location, that I am aware of, and it is on 190 in Covington. They do not take credit cards, cash or check only. The pizza is really good and the place is run down. I would venture to say it has been in this location for the past 50 years with the original lights, ceiling grid and tiles, paint, etc. It is like you are going back in time 30 or so years when you go there.

They do serve a mean pitcher of draft beer however. Like I said, pizza is really good. They have an open window space where the kids can sit and watch the Pizza Man roll the dough and make each pie as they are ordered.

Ok, the original poster and another keeps saying, "this style of pizza." Nobody has said what style the pizza is? I really can only come up with three styles: fast food pizza, NY pizza, Chicago pizza, gourmet pizza...okay, that was 4.

SO, 4LSU2, gave the above comment. That's all I have to go on. Mama Della's, which a thread exist for it, is the best pizza BR has to offer. It is "really good" and has "an open window space where the kids can sit and watch the Pizza Man roll the dough and make each pie as they are ordered."

I posted it a few posts up but its a paper thin pizza, slightly greasy but all fresh ingredients I'm a plain pepperoni and cheese guy. The bottom of the pizza is dusted from its preparation. It doesn't have very much red sauce on it. That's about as good as I can describe it.

Here's a pic of a pie from Pizza Man:

Go to Mama Della's! So my thread about it. It's paper thin, freshly prepared with fresh ingredients, and is the best you'll find in BR!

Just for the record, is the Sicilian pizza thin crust?

I haven't had it yet.

The Pizza Man opened on Boston St. (technically 190 I guess) back in the late '70s, very early '80s. It was located next to Fat Tom's record store when you drove around that dogleg from Hwy 21 to Boston St. by SSA. I didn't realize they moved to another location but, then again, I haven't been in the area in nearly 20 years.

I think Sicilian crust is an inch thick and usually in a square shape. I may be wrong.
