We went cold at the wrong times. They went cold in the beginning of the season.

Smoke's fault.

South Carolina is as bad at the plate as we were this year, but they have been squeaking out close games over the last month of the season.

yeah, i know .. but if they win this only they and USC will have ever three-peated in history .. prior to this run, where was their "tradition" ? we all like to talk about our tradition and how we are the #1 program in the country .. but, while USCe has been in the NC series three years in a row, we've gone 1-2 in a road regional, sat at home, and lost to stony brook in a super .. just frustrating .. that's all ..

We don't seem to have the clutch hitters like we used to.

Mainieri's seat is getting warm IMO, if we're consistently watching 3-4 other SEC teams make Omaha every year.

LSU has everything it needs to sign whatever baseball players it wants, but Mainieri only signs "Mainieri guys". His guy's are quiet, no-ego, team players. We don't sign any leaders like a Merrifield, Jackie Bradley, Marzilli, Roth, Price or Walker. Mainieri wants complete control of the team and program. That would probably be OK if Mainieri didn't have such a loser attitude himself. When things go bad, he pouts, points blame and anticipates defeat. Tanner is the exact opposite. He lets the players lead the team, doesn't over coach and keeps a loose attitude. A lot like Bertman.

Bingo. It is not just about having good hitters, it is about having guys that are at their best in clutch situations. Nola was that guy for this team, and just happened to have a terrible series.

Also, SC (and other teams) have guys that make "good outs". LSU's hitters seem to strike out or pop up, rather than make an out that allows a guy to move forward on the bases. This is so crucial to creating that extra run or two each game.

This is important to note.

They recruit better. They have championship swagger and believe they will win.

Win or lose, they are the new dynasty of college baseball.

Winning is a culture and winning begets winning.

Rooney did a heck of a job in his short time at LSU.

dean

Smoke managed that one.

Mitchell

Les Miles

jacoby

Are we calling that a success?

Uhhh, we haven't gotten a guy like that in 3 years, save Jacoby (who hit like .253 with 4 HR and an utterly pathetic OBP of .308 this year). His OBP was second worst of all LSU starters this year.

When Rooney & Godwin left, Mainieri said that he would have to be much more involved in recruiting. We all see where that has gone.

Actually you're wrong about that. He was more hands off and let Grewe too much. He admitted that after last year and the coaches are more involved now. We'll have to wait and see if that makes a difference.

pre-skip bertman, mississippi state was to SEC baseball what kentucky was to SEC basketball .. then, starting in 1986, skip changed that and sent us on an almost two decade run as being the kentucky hoops of sec baseball ... we are no longer THE program in the SEC ..
