Have a camp 16 ft. above ground and want to tile shower and bathroom floor. Anybody have any problems with tile cracking from the camp moving?

You would have noticed before now if you have alot of movement in the house ie cracks in the walls, creaking in the wind, doors sticking in the frames.

Unless the camp is the most solidly crossmembered camp ever, its gonna crack one day. maybe not this year or next, but one day.

You can use Ditra, it is a rubberized membrane to use under tile. The subfloor to the Detra is attached with a modified (flexible) thinset and the Ditra to the tile you use an unmodified thinset. It won't prevent cracks completely, but will greatly reduce them...

How long has the camp been there?

Ive seen tile in trailers. How is that done? Doesnt seem like a camp would be any worse built than a mobile home and both are off the ground.

Seems like 3ft off the ground in a trailer vs. 16ft off the ground at his camp would make a difference

Guess so. Figured a camp would be just as stable as particle board sitting on cinder blocks.

You can have movement from a couple of difference sources. The wood will dry and warp for a short while after it is built. You will have sinking of the pilings (settlement) and you can have deflection if the floor joist are not large enough, have too large a run, or are spaced too far apart to sustain the sustain the weight they are supporting. Normally a bathroom, especially on a camp is going to be small and less chance to be effected by the settlement or the deflection...

Building the camp now, and have not put cross-braces yet. You can feel the camp moving as someone is walking. We do have 1 1/2 inch floors, all new construction with 2 by 6 walls, and sprayed insulation. We are using porceline tile and a flexable grout so we will see what happens.
