Jesse Scroggins to transfer from USC

This guy is a RS So. pro-style QB with strong arm and blue chip mobility. Injuries, classroom issues and Barkley kept him off the field at S. Cal.
Considered LSU, Fla., Tenn and Nebraska before going to SC.
Calif native.
Would be an ideal fit backing up Mett and filling the gap until Rettig comes along.

Idk how transfers work-- would we accept him?

If he is transferring then I'm sure he wants to go and actually play somewhere. He wouldn't play here. We have pretty good depth anyway unless you are writing off Rivers, Randall and Liggins already.

He'll transfer to a juco this year, then have 2 to play 2 after that.
Rivals had him as the #5 pro-style qb out of high school. While not a dual threat, he was considered very athletic for a pro-style.
Sounds familiar.

Is wrong.
He's going to a JUCO this year anyway.

Dude was like 4th string after being passed by 2 freshmen. No thanks.

Compare the QB roster credentials at USC and LSU.
And, no, I don't think a lot of Rivers and Liggens by comparison.

So you don't think much of a RS Fresh & an Incoming Fresh? Tough Crowd
What are you basing your feelings for scroggins on?

This is good news for us on the recruiting front. USC will look to take another QB. Helps with the SW DBs we're going after

Unless that QB is Rettig, then it is not good news.

It makes you wonder why these kids continue to pick USC every year. They get one of the top quarterbacks year in, year out. Do they not realize that only 1 plays at a time? There's so much talent that goes there to be wasted.

Because you've seen the guy play and practice outside of the spring game.
Good call Kirk Herbstreit. You should look into being an analyst.

I think he could be a priority offer if he performs well at the JUCO level this year. I'm guessing if he's a 3rd year SO. coming into this fall he'll only spend the fall at the JUCO (Since he should have a lot of hours at this point) and then go to a DI program as an early 2013 enrollee.
Personally I don't feel "comfortable" with what we have at QB if Mett leaves after this season. Not saying Rivers, Randall, Liggins won't be good if they had to start in 2013 but I do think is Scroggins performs well at JUCO he may be our best QB for 2013 out of that group. Retting obviously wouldn't be in the equation for 2013.

Prom,
I'm no expert, but you're hardly in a position to criticise others for being self proclaimed "analysts".
I think most on this board think of Rivers and Liggens as projects. If you have a different analysis, say so.
Otherwise, I'll chalk your comment up as more post count snobbery from one of those who spend an uncomfortable amount of time assessing boyflesh.

give me some analysis of how you feel Scroggins has performed thus far as a college player?
Posted on 6/5/12 at 12:48 pm to ItsThatDude12
I understand Scroggins has seen the field only once, and for only a snap or two.
He was reshirted and injured. Practice reports are that he has great arm, but he couldn't crack a tough line up at USC.
According to staff, he's cleared up his academic problems.
Otherwise, I can only observe he came out of HS much more highly regarded than anyone currently at QB for LSU, with the exception of Mett.

Oh Snap! You got served, Prom!!!
But in all honesty, I agree with Prom on this one. You don't know if Scroggins is any better than Rivers at this point. I think Liggens and Randal (if he's even still at QB) are projects. I think Rivers may be a solid QB after another year or two. And I hope Rettig makes it to campus.
That's all my unsubstantiated opinion though.
