I just bought a used skiff which has a built in battery charger. How do I tell when the batteries are fully charged? The boat doesn't have a meter on it to indicate charge.

I used the boat for several hours yesterday with a lot of trolling motor use. I would like to take it back out today for a few hours and was just wondering if I have enough juice left to go.

There are no lights on the charger? I have owned two, and both had lights that changed to green when done.

I used mine for 4 days last weekend off and on. Never needed a charge the whole time. 24 volt system.

I don't know. I'll check to see. They were red when I plugged it in. The charger is difficult to get to.

Thanks for the information.

I'm new to boating so I have a lot to learn. I took it out for several hours yesterday and got to know the boat. I didn't sink it so I guess that is a good thing. I also had no problem on the ramp so that too was a good thing.

If you're new to boating, here's some advice.

Don't back down the ramp and then decide to unhook boat/take stuff out of the truck/go use the bathroom.

Do all that first on the side.

Yep. I had some A hole with a pontoon boat do just that when I was reloading. He had at least ten boats beaked up by the time he was finished. I took only a few minutes to get loaded and pull off the ramp. I hit it on the first try with no problem.

I do need to do a better/faster job of backing the empty trailer down the ramp. I was a little crooked but, still in my lane.

I was the first boat to the launch today at 5:45 and let the next 3 go ahead of me. I'm terrible on the ramp. I have a small boat and trailer so by the time I see it in my mirrors, I'm crooked.

Loading is even worse. I can't see my trailer for shite and ALWAYS get crooked. Plus most of the ramps around here are steep as hell, making it tougher. Then it seems like there is no 'sweet spot' for loading my boat. I'm either too far out to get it all the way up, or I'm too far in and see nothing but the strap.

I'm looking at getting a new trailer strictly for this. Mine is low as hell.

That was pretty much what I did. I have a topper on my truck so my view is limited to straight back or using mirrors. I think I'll get better after a few more times.

I like how bass boat trailers have PVC poles at the corner so you can still see the trailer when empty. I might try to add them to mine if possible.

Like others have said most have lights that alert you as to when a battery is fully charged. As far as how long it might take to charge a battery, the higher the amp rating on the charger the faster it'll charge.

My boat is a 2010 and didn't have them. I've been looking to add them.

Please, take this advice and never forget it! and the same for picking up, don't pull up 20 feet out the water and stop to pack up!
