I know he won't be back this year but what kind of damage is there and will he be back at 100% next year? Also, can he medical redshirt?

I talked to him a couple weeks ago. He said the recovery is going really well and he will be back next season. No, he can't medical redshirt for this year because he played and started way too many games for that.

quote:
To qualify under the medical hardship guidelines a player must be deemed medically unable to continue on with the season by a physician, not have competed (entered a game for any reason) in more than 30% of his team's scheduled games, and not competed in any games beyond the 1/2 way point of the season (based on regular season scheduled games). All documentation, records, physicians statement, etc. must be turned in at the end of the season by the schools athletic director with the proper forms to the NCAA, and they will make a ruling on whether or not to grant the waiver, and in turn whether or not the athlete will receive that year of eligibility back. Keep in mind though that they are still on the 5 year clock (they have 5 calender years to get in 4 years of eligibility).
As far as his health, he was still in a neck brace as of 2 weeks ago when he was in the dugout during the game. I'm not sure of any updates as far as progess, other than assuming he will have a full and healthy recovery
Regarding the medical reshirt, he played in 22 games which is nearly 40% of the scheduled games, so he will not be eligible for the RS.

He was still in the brace at Hoover.
I remember someone at one point saying he had to do 6 months in the brace before he could be activities.

It doesn't seem like he played in 22 games for some reason. I was thinking more like 10-15 for some reason.
