Continuum was a great album, one of my favorites. Where the Light Is with the John Mayer Trio is also great.

Born and Raised is a flop IMO and so was Battle Studies. Very disappointing

I think the new album sounds great. A departure form his previous stuff sure, but still a good listen.

its ok, doesn't touch continuum, but none of his albums do. the 2nd half of this is sounding much better.

They raped age of worry though. I thought it was going to be much better after hearing his live version

I was expecting brilliance after Where the Light Is. Just too high of expectations i guess. I enjoy his live covers/performances far more than his albums these days

Battle Studies

Battle studies is good and was certainly no flop. I will reserve my opinion for Bron and Raised until I can listen to the full album.

i think he had some throat problems and had to take some time off. he also does stand up and some comedians said that he even stopped going to the comedy cellar to try and heal up.

Continuum and Where the Light is are certainly his best work, but the new album is pretty incredible. It's right behind Continuum for me, it just needs time to grow on you. Battle Studies by no means was a flop, as are none of his albums, but certainly not to his standards.

Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967 may be the most well written and structured song he has done.
Walt Grace...

Vocal chord problems. Was supposed to perform at Jazz Fest same day as Springsteen. Cancelled that and the rest of his tour.

Continuum was a great record...But would you just want him to recreate that with every album?? No...

B&R has very mature sound...He is obviously very influenced by Tom Petty, Neil Young, Dylan & James Taylor (Walt Grace could be a JT song IMO..brilliant)....All of which come thru on the new record.

While it is overall a very mellow record, just give it a few listens....It is good shite

Will be picking up the Vinyl

Obviously insanely talented people are always out there and he seems to be the same way. I'm not exactly sure what the hell happened for him to go out there and make an album like this and start dressing like New Mexico Jonny Depp. After born and raised he said he was gonna do an electric guitar album again but that didn't happen. Who knows, but ill give it a listen.

HAHA, and selling out arenas charging a bill a seat.

Continuum is a top 5 album of mine and was expecting big things with battle studies that didnt really happen. However, its John Mayer, he is going to be writing songs for decades, thats what he does. Your going to get a spree of 2 or 3 albums that are mediocre due to you expecting another Continuum. Im gonna go ahead and get this album today. It sounds more folky than anything so far. Hoping for a few fender shreds to learn.

i have to say, I made the post after the 3rd song of the album. It finishes very strong.

Love Whiskey,Whiskey, Whiskey.

The problem I have is that I had heard all these songs before the album came out, and they sounded awesome live. I had very high expectations from the youtube videos and from him talking about the Bob Dylan influence

I was going to say, I thought the new album is great. Listening to it right now, actually.

Not up there with previous albums, but still really good.
