Yet another Brees rumor...

Take this FWIW...ran into Roman Harper three days ago at the airport...He told me to not worry at all about Brees contract. He says that the deal is DONE..but since he didnt sign his franchise tender he is currently not under contract with the Saints AND they and therefore can communicate with Payton. And Harper said Brees and Payton talk EVERY DAY.

However ... I'm not sure the NFL would consider Brees as NOT currently being affiliated with the NFL. He's not retired, is an exclusive rights FA, and is even an NFLPA rep/member.

at what point is talking to payton more team beneficial than being at OTA's with teammates and coaches on staff. If it goes past may 21st, i don't believe this to be true.

When he told me...I though, Damn! it does make sense. That is a way to get around the suspension.

Unless Brees is just enjoying golfing with Payton, I don't see what they could possibly be doing that would be more beneficial to the team than Brees showing up and leading the team.

Kinda weird that Harper would just spill something like that to random airport guy but I'll take what I can get at this point.

Even if he's currently not under contract, Brees is certainly considered to be someone "around the NFL", I'd think.

All i can tell you is that he did say it. Like I said..take it FWIW. He could totally be BS me, but when he told me, I thought about if for a minute and it made kinda sense. I agree, getting him signed, is much more crucial. Especially from a PR standpoint.

The league has long since said that communication between Brees and Payton is forbidden. So Harper is wrong. Or you're full of shite. Either way that isn't going on.

Kind of sounds like this is YOUR rumor and you're throwing Harper under the bus but like I said, I'll hang on to anything right now.

I had these thoughts the other day as well, but ended up thinking that Payton wouldn't be able to talk to him because of him being a rep with the NFLPA.
