Last year our weakest link on defense was our LB corp. That's not a slight directed at our LB. It's easy to be the weakest link when you have All SEC players on the dline and in the secondary. I know RBaker made all sec second team. Do you guys think we'll see one of those freshman get significant playing time? Does the rant think we'll have an upgrade at the LB position , compared to last year?

Minter is a beast. He'll impress a lot of people IMO.

Tahj Jones laid the wood when he was in in the Nov. 5 Alabama game.

I really can't think of who would be the other but I know it's someone great, I just can't think of the guy's name. I'd know it if I heard it.

yes I believe it will be an upgrade this year, but wait until 2013-2014 when everyone has another year or two of seasoning and hopfully Kwon is heathy and playing like a beast.

The future is bright for LSU.

We've struggled to get and develop quality linebackers, at least to the point where it becomes a team strength, for several years. It appears we have a significant upgrade at talent - maybe as much linebacker talent as we've had in 6 to 7 years, but much of it is unrealized and inexperienced. The inexperience factor will be a problem. If the youngsters don't pick up the game quickly, they could be a liability as we get deeper in the schedule.

I thought he had like a bad injury that would prevent him from playing soon or ever?

T. Jones will be ready this year. We are deep but young. I think we will be in good shape.

I think we will se more productivity at linebacker, if for no other reason than they will likely get much more opportunity than the last two seasons.

In 2010 and 2011, Chavis couldn't wait to get the nickel package on the field. I think we all felt that having Mathieu on the slot was our strongest defense.

But this was predicated on having two top cornerbacks who could carry the load on the outside. Peterson/Claiborne in 2010 and Claiborne/Simon in 2011. With the pessimistic reports coming out of Spring Drills relative to Collins/Jenkins, it's possible that Chavis will not feel confident moving Mathieu inside - meaning we will stay in our base 4-3 for many more snaps.

Hopefully, Jenkins and/or Collins improve to the point to where they can be effective on an island. Or maybe, one of the true freshmen will be ready to excel from the get-go.
